what does it mean? I won a big prize of a hamper of cakes and chocolates, gorgeous - got lots of attention and shared it out but kept some for my children to take home.

I think this also a expression of intentionally withholding a piece of you within maybe cause you share plenty of you in the real world and sometimes feel too much...so you keep part of you within to share only with the ones you love most.
just a thought.
I once heard that dreams are a reflection of self no matter how many people or animals are in them.

big prize = desire
get lots of attention = things you need
It may be very obvious that you are seeking for attention in general. And this desire or big prize you projected basically symbolize things you can't get in life. In other words, you have some desire and this may have something to do with your helpless conscience.
Getting lots of attention is basically the same thing as in reality, you want people to recognize you. Not only with the prize you win, but things you do in life.
And you vent it all out in dream
