My son is 9 1/2. He goes to bed at 8:30 and then reads for an hours. On weekends he goes to bed at 9:00 and turns lights out at 10:00.

my daughter's doctor always tells me that children under 12 should get 9-10 hours of sleep. It makes it hard when so many people think they have to involve their kids in tons of afterschool activities. But realistically, they need sleep more than a multitude of extracurricular activities. My daughter's only 6, but she's in bed by 7:45 am since we get her up at 6:15 am. For a 9-1/2 year old, I would say 9:00 pm, that is, if you have her get up at 6:30 or so. She needs the sleep to grow, to relax her body and mind, to fight sicknesses, etc. ....
Don't care what other people think, do what you think is best for the child. What's most important is their health and well-being.

We live in the Central time zone...our kids went to bed at 9:00 p.m. from pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade. 10 pm was for junior high, unless a school activity lasted later than 9 pm... then they were allowed to be up for 1 hour after they got home. High school bed time depended on their activities, jobs, and grades. If the grades went down, the 10 pm rule came back. Of course, it depends on what time they have to be up. They need no less than 8 hours of sleep when they are pre-teens.

When I was 9 my mom made me go to bed at 8. (but she is like, over WAY overprotective) And I wished I could go to bed at atleast 9.
But if you take her bed time down from 10 to 9... she will probably get mad or upset. It would seem unfair to her. I would keep it at 10. Definatly not 12 on a school night, but if it's the weekend, most of my friends don't have a bedtime because they are old enough to decide what is a reasonable time to sleep. By 12 she should know when she is tierd enough to get some sleep.

A 9 1/2 year old child need plenty of rest. My pholosophy of the matter is that as a parent you have the responsibility to spend quality time with your child. For instance, you should read to or with your child every evening. Do not abruptly demand that your shild should "GO TO BED". Prepare her mentally by suggesting that she should start "getting ready for bed" about 30 minutes to an hour before her bed time. Several times before her bedtime, say things like "You'll need to finish (that which you are doing) before your bedtime"Then "early to bed and early to rise makes a child healthy, wealthy and wise".
As a parent, you need time to yourself. Therefore, your 9 year old should be in bed by 9:00 P.M.

Children ages 5- adult need 10 hours of sleep. If you wake up at 8 in the morning, you need to go to bed at 10 pm.
If you wake up at 7 you need to go to bed at 9 pm.
If you wake up at 6, you need to go to bed at 8 pm.

I would say 8:30-9:00 thats what time i make my 6yr old and 8yr old step daughter go to bed. Because even if you make them go to bed at 8 they will probably not get to sleep for another hour, They are either layin there talkin to siblings or just tossin and turnin tryin to get to sleep.
