Not rude at all. A wedding is supposed to be about making a commitment to your spouse, not about putting on a big show for everyone else. I am a wedding photographer, and I do at least one or two weddings every year where it is just me and the couple. I am also an ordained Arch Bishop, which comes in handy if I need to perform the ceremony too.

The cheapest of videographers charge between $300-400. I would give a gift in the range (maybe a little less, since it was amateur). A gift of money or gift certificate would be great, that way he can get exactly what he wants.

Let him video tape the honeymoon.
Seriously, some blank tape, a gift certificate for Target or a restaurant, case of beer, bottle of fine wine, something like that. You don't need to go overboard, especially if they didn't expect anything.

I would buy them someting nice, but you gotta know what they are into. If they like wine, then thats easy, just pick up a bottle of that, not cheap, but not expensive. But I would definitely get them something nice. Congrats on your wedding! Hope all goes well and God bless!

gift certificate - say at least $250 for camera supplies (they are really expensive) or his favortie store (whatever hobby he is in)
if you give him cash that might make him feel uncomfortable to accept it...but a gift card, he won't know until he receives it or uses it and harder to turn away (assuming you're not into cameras)
good luck
