There are so many types and causes of rashes that the treatments are often trial-and-error. Since the cream isn't working, this tells the doc that the type of rash you have is probably not the type that he thought.

You can probably help the diagnosis by keeping track of changes in the rash, and if there are things you could be doing to cause those changes - like using harsh soaps, or anything else that causes skin irritation. Its also possible that the rash is a bacterial infection that needs to be treated with a prescription antibiotic.

Rashes that burn are usually caused by an infection, or by using some type of skin care product that causes the burning. If the burning is not related to anything you are applying to your skin, it would be a good idea to go back to the doctor.

I believe that you may have a condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa. It is a condition of re-occurring boils/ cysts/abscesses , that are often misdiagnosed as ingrown hairs, herpes, being unclean and folliculitis. This is a newly diagnosed skin condition , but there is a lot of info out there.
Here is a link :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidradenitis_suppurativa
If this sounds like it might be you, READ it, PRINT it out, and TAKE it to your DOC.
Its better to try to start treatment soon, it can spread over the body if left untreated. These boils can become quite large and painful. Sometimes even lasting for weeks or months , do not attempt to POP them they can then tunnel under your skin and spread all over the body. Most common areas are armpits, groin, binkni line, inner legs, and intimate places and basically anywhere that sweats and rub against clothing. Stress is a big inducer.

There is some support groups at MSN

and yahoo, and I am open for questions!
I have had this for 8 years, I was misdiagnosed for a LONG time, It was very embarrassing, painful and scary. I am just trying to help out so you don’t have to wait as long as I did.

If they are extremely painful.......it could be the onset of shingles. It does not mean in the least that you are a dirty person. Some people falsely believe that "shingles" only affect the elderly, but that is NOT TRUE. Shingles are caused by the same virus that cause chicken pox. A cream is most likely not going to do a thing.

Whatever you do, do not scratch. Keep them exposed to as much air as possible. Do not cover with any bandage.... Your doctor needs to prescribe an anti-viral oral medication....like acyclovir (Valtrex or Zovarax or something like that.....but not the cream). This medication can upset your stomach so be ready to eat some crackers or something.

#1 question. What type of dr? If you went to a general practitioner, I suggest you call a Dermatologist immediately for an appointment.
#2 - They may be burning because the cream has too much hydrocortisone in it and may not be proper for this. Again, dermatologist is the best and make sure you explain the history.
