OK. i'm a senior in high school and i've been considering joining the army reserves to pay for college. i want to go to university of texas at san antonio. usually i wouldn't consider it but it seems a pretty sweet deal. i would have to go through training the summer after i graduate and after that i would only have to go to work one weekend out of the month. for that one weekend i go to work they'll pay me over $800. plus if i sign up now i would get $1400 a year and a bonus of $20,000. they would give me half the bonus up front and the rest i would get in payments. the thing is i'd have to sign up for six years and HELLO we are at war so there is a chance i could still get shipped off. So what do you think, is it worth it? i'd really appreciate some input from people that are already in the reserves and maybe from those who are in active duty too. muchisimas gracias!

Plutoniumsoda is totally wrong! You would not have to repay any of that bonus. In the end, you have to decide if it is worth it. Just because you "get shipped off" doesn't mean you going to "get blown away" either and may even mean you learn something useful personally. A much better reason for joining the Reserves is to serve your country while still working in a civilian job. Getting your education paid for is a nice perk, but should not be the major reason to join. It is a decision only you can make.

right here's the interior song. military Reserves has a non-contributory GI bill, which signifies that you do not pay something, like the lively duty GI bill, the position $one hundred is deducted out of your pay for the first three hundred and sixty 5 days for a finished quantity of $1200. The USAR can certainly pay your coaching and right here's how and it is as of in the present day: coaching suggestion $4,500 in line with three hundred and sixty 5 days GI bill. $10548.00 pupil mortgage repayment application $ as a lot as twenty,000 Gi bill Kicker $ one hundred/three hundred in line with month Bonus, universal about $14,000 Now, the pupil mortgage repayment application is actual easy, you go and get loans and the USAR pays for them, as a lot as 20K. the significant huge difference between the nationwide safeguard and the USAR, is the very incontrovertible reality that the nationwide safeguard belongs to the state, a touch regular reality is that if there's a state emergency, money dispensed for instructing the troops are the first ones to be faucet, for this reason you may finally end up without aducational suggestion for awhile. So, you are able to certainly have a touch over 70K and this does no longer comprise the money that you'll get on your weekend drill and the money it may forestall will in the course of your easy coaching and technical college. solid success
