i just purchased a pre-owned 2004 buick rainier. unlike my previous vehicle, which had buttons to push to switch from 2wd to 4 hi and 4 low for bad weather.

when i expressed satisfaction that my new auto would have to have 4wd at the dealership, i'm not sure that this model is for sure AWD. i just found out that the 2004 buick rainier has a 4x2 model (rear wheel drive) and an AWD model. how can i tell for sure that my auto is AWD? please let me know.

Look under the front end of the vehicle and check whether or not there are any drive shafts running to the front wheels. If there aren't any, you have a 2WD model.

Buick Rainiers got here with AWD. this is electronically controlled, so this is possible that a module or sensor has long previous undesirable. The Rainier is a rear wheelcontinual motor vehicle on the whole (Sharing the comparable platform because of the fact the Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Olds Bravada, and Saab 9.7x SUVs...Chevy's might desire to be ordered as 2 wheelcontinual, rear axle.) to confirm nevertheless, seek for the CV Joints on the front axles. those are axles, no longer in basic terms spindles.

if you have an AWD rainier it will have a badge on the right rear corner of the tailgate. the other way is to turn the front wheels all the way to the locks and look into the wheel well.
if you see C/V shafts then you are all wheel drive if not
you are 2 wheel drive. that easy. good luck.

Just look in the wheel area in all four corners to see if there is a drive axle leading out to the tire. If there is a drive axle with CV joints or a hard differential, it is a AWD. If the front just has suspension, it's a 2WD.

Call your insurance company for a quote and ask them. They can tell by the VIN number. Or you can look it up on the GM web site yourself.

cheers.

Personally, i'd throw it in neutral, rev it up a little bit to get it ready to spin and then shift it into drive!....If your real tires are the only ones spinning trying to grip than obviously, there's your answer!
