Hi,

there's really no need to make a choice. I do both.

I know it's possible to let time run away with you while on the net, but the same is true when reading a good book.

I always have a book in the bathroom...whenever I go, I sit and read just a little more each time. It helps if you have more than one bathroom, of course, then you don't get disturbed by others wanting to use the facilities.

Seriously, what I have said is true...if you set a time each day for reading (or any other activity) and stick to it, you will be able to get back into the joy of books. Once started (as with the internet) you can find it takes over a bit but, let's face it, the effort is well worthwhile.

Reading is one of the great joys of life and it doesn't take long to be totally absorbed in a book and forget other pastimes for a while. Only you know the type of book and the authors you admire and enjoy, so choose one, set yourself a time each day to read for a while (it doesn't HAVE to be the bathroom, though that works for me!) and you'll be enjoying reading again very soon.

Good luck,

BobSpain

I'm giving you a star because I love to read. I'm glad you are interested in getting back to it.

Librarians are usually pretty helpful and knowledgeable about different authors and genres that interest you. Without knowing what you like, I really don't know what to recommend.

Here's the New York Times Best Sellers list...

A magazine subscription might also be a good idea. You can read a little at a time and not feel that you have to trudge through several hundred pages of a book. I have subscriptions to National Geographic and Smithsonian, both excellent sources of information on the world, cultures, art, and history.

Well, of course, when you're surfing the Internet, you ARE reading. Much better than being glued to the tube! But for what you mean, get hooked in a book that you can't put down, and maybe join a discussion group.

Read a great book that keeps you hooked...that should spark some interest. What kind of books do you like? I would be happy to reccommend some.

Try Angel's and Demons or The Da Vinci Code. a couple of mainstream books that are pretty riveting.
