I am looking at buying my first bow. Looking at a Parker BuckHunter XP. Just wondering if anybody knew anything about this bow or any other suggestions.

Also I am looking for a climbing stand. My current stand just doesn't have enough room for bowhunting. It's either the Summit Viper or 180. Any input is aprecciated.

Any other tips or overlooked equipment for a first-time bowhunter is welcome.

I own a Parker Buck Hunter XP and I absolutely love it. I think it's a perfect first-time bow, and it's highly adjustable if you get a little stronger and would like to up the draw weight a little. I have mine set at 50lbs. and it REALLY drives those arrows. It's not badly priced either. I got mine at Gander for $400, tuned, sighted in and out the door.

Wish I could say more about the treestand. I've only used ladder stands. Down here in Florida there's not much use for a climber.

Make sure you get some good advice on the necessities.....
get your self measured for draw length and make sure that the right arrows are selected.....you will need to have the 1.draw weight 2.draw length 3. and the correct spine weight of the arrow for those.....

next will be choosing an arrow rest.......if you are shooting with fingers the rest will be different than if you will be shooting with a release..... most bows sold now are setup with a rest for using a mech. release.

make sure you get a peep sight adjusted for how you draw the bow and where your anchor point will be....... if you can't get help with these items at the store where you are buying the bow, you better move on to the next store...

these things are important so you have a better tuned bow and better accuracy....otherwise you may end up with some fishtailing as the arrow leaves......losing accuracy and speed.

you may want an arm guard if you will be shooting with a coat on(it will help keep the coat out of the way......

I have shot Matthews and Diomond (BowTech cheap stuff) as long as I have been bow hunting and I won't buy any thing else. A friend shoots a Hyot and really likes it.
