I can't imagine filling your stomach with a gallon of water and your body absorbing ALL of that. It seems to me that your body needs a constant supply. But I'm trying to gauge how much water should I be doing at one time. Right now I am starting with 8oz every hour. But I'm wondering should it be 12, 16, 18, or 20.

Can you help me out?

You are on the right track - the medical community advises 8 8oz glasses of water a day - however if you are very active you do need more and Tea, Juice, Coffee and milk do not count as they are not totally water and even contain diuretic properties that remove water from your system. So bottom line 64oz a day is the minimum and if you are active or over heated drink more.

I've always heard eight glasses (8oz) of water a day. I guess it would vary depending on what the person needed, but if you drink what I said above you should be doing good and not hurting yourself. It equal out to 64floz which should be fine!

Exactly how much water one needs depends on that person such as weight, activity level, etc. I was given something for my birthday called a HydraCoach. It is a water bottle that you enter in your weight and it will tell you how much water you should drink to keep you kidneys functioning properly. It will also track how much you have drink in a 24 hour period. The price was not bad either, about 35.00.

8oz an hour seems like a bit much, unless you are constantly working out or doing bikram yoga (yoga in a sauna room). As a big water drinker, I think you should drink as much as you are comfortable with, and mix it up with herbal teas or watered-down juices, so that your liquid intake doesn't become a monotonous chore.

There is such a thing as Water Poisoning, Hyponatremia, which is drinking too much water over a short period of time washing out your electrolytes, minerals, and sharply reducing your sodium content. There are documented cases of suicide by overdosing with water.

It depends on several conditions: Your weight, what you eat, what you are doing, in which climate do you live, etc. In summer you will drink much more because you are sweating. You should drink when you are thirsty, but not when you are eating. So it depends, but about between 1 and 2 liter should do it. (That's 4 to 8 glasses.)
I hope this helps.

A person should drink half of their body weight in oz. of water daily. For example if you weighed 160 pounds, you would drink 80 oz. of water a day.
