Code of Practice is for an industry wide compliance. Such as Doctors who follow certain codes of practice.

A policy is set locally. One Doctor may require their office personelle to wear scrubs but this is not then followed by ALL doctor's offices.

I think Codes of practice tend to be imposed by a regulator while a policy is an internally generated code which will - a lot of times - draw on the code.

In my opinion, a code of practice is a list of things that *need* to be followed in order to do things right (ie in a factory if workers don't follow the code of practice they can get hurt or so).
To me policy is more like a bill (ie insurance policy) that is meant to regulate things by laws, or depending on the context it can be a warrant, etc. :)

I sure hope that helped you out. :)

A policy is what you want to achieve. A code of practice is how you acheive it!
