Are people who don't live their lives this way in a very small minority?

That is the mindstream of a good populace, we have to come out of it. And In my opinion human are developing in all ways so in future will come out of it. And become more caring and giving nature, only when people start thinking about the triviality of life. So the minority you stated is on steady increase.

No, I don't think that most people live thinking like this. Even if most of the responses you get here confirm that they do--remember that people who have access to computers in America are in the vast MINority, and to carve out Yahoo Answers viewers is to have even a smaller sliver of Reality.

Like Anne Frank, I believe that people are mostly good at heart.

I also believe that people respond to their environment, and live the way that they feel they need to in order to survive or to get ahead.

Just remember that there are as many different ways to live your life as there are people.
Abraham Lincoln said, "I reckon people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be." A person cannot always control what happens in their life, but every person can control their own reaction to what happens.

Life is good. Enjoy the day.

I tend to think that the majority of people 'do unto others as they would have others do unto them.'

Its the 'before they do you' who are in the minority (I hope) but they are the ones we read about and now see all too often on TV.

I live by the "do unto others as you'd have them do unto you" motto, and yes, I feel like a definite minority. However, I like who I see in the mirror, and I really wonder if the other people do. It isn't easy, but it's a lot nicer in my head that way.

Who knows? Most of the time people present themselves in a light that is favorable. There are so many different daily choices we make constantly, and not all of them are "good". Everyone messes up, I would think that someone who took everyone else into consideration before themselves would be the minority. That saying is just a guideline.

all creatures on earth act this way some how or another. like they eat other animals, before they get eaten. people are the same way. its to some extent a part of survival. naturally, if someone is attacking you, you HAVE to attack them back to protect yourself! however the human race takes this moral to the extreme, we kill others and rape and torture others even when there is no need for it. i think it is a very small minority of those who dont. people are the most corrupted animals of all.

I live by "harm none" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
Although in my heart I believe most people are good, I am only responsible for my own actions and can not speak for others.
However, if I do run across someone like that, I would still treat him or her as I would like to be treated, not the way I think they would treat me.

I generally don't care about others except my family and friends, who I treat with the most care and respect I can muster out of my poor black soul.
Everyone else is just set on this planet for small talk.

You're asking people who answer other people's questions for hardly any gain at all. The question probably gets a biased set of answers in this forum.

I'd say "no". And "at least, I wish not". And then "well, we could hope for 50/50".

I think there are good and bad in all people and cultures. It is true, however, that only a small remnant of the "good people" have a true understanding of what it means to be good. The issues concerning our intentions, the thoughts of our heart, are what is truly in question.
