I can't believe a doctor would make a recommendation like that. Everything I've seen published in the last couple of years says don't give children cough medicine of any kind. First off some children can be very adversely affected by the ingredients in them and secondly they need to cough to clear the mucous from their lungs. My daughter's and daughter-in-law's pediatricians have told them "no cough medicine" and no aspirin/tylenol for the little ones under six.

I use a regular infant Tylenol on my son. I do not bother with the cough and cold because there is no point, it is doing the same thing when you are buying any infant formulas. It gets them sleepy, takes away any aches or pains and you use a saline drop for the runny nose. You could even use vicks rub on his shirt or foot of his pants.

Too many parents are not doing proper dosage for cough and cold infant medicines and the result is that most for your child's age have been recalled.

They recently took all over the counter cough medicine off of the shelves for children under 2 years of age! Your doctor should know that! Plus its been all over the news and internet. You need to confront your doctor about it! I recently took my son in for a cough, runny nose and wheezing. He perscribed a steroid for 5 days and an inhaler for 5 days. NOT cough medicine. Seriously talk to your doctor I cant believe he told you to buy cough medicine.

nothing. pediatricians agree that cough medicines have little to no effect on children under the age of two. though our society is quick to medicate, you'll be better off with a cool mist humidifier, saline nose drops, and a nasal aspirator.

I don't think over the counter cough medicines are good for children. I sould use a hunidifier, Vics...rubbed on the bottom of his feet, then a pair of socks.... It works!!!!
He is still a baby....

My parents always gave us Triaminic. I probably spelled that wrong. Anyway, you can get it at any Walgreens (and I think they sell their own brand that is cheaper) and it comes in several formulas to deal with various symptoms. The key is to get the one that treats the symptoms the baby has but not the ones he doesn't. Poor baby! Hope he/she feels better soon!

mmm if i was you as a mom i would really recommend it not to be over the counter. there has been a lot of recalls on meds for small babies. if i was you i would make that extra effort to just go to the pediatrician. its better to be safe then sorry. your baby is still to small. good luck.

i bought triaminic thin strips, they are awesome for cough and colds, and no messy liquids or fighting with with the kids to take it, just put it on their tounge and it dissolves instantly
