That is hilarious!! However, what's more funny is that you still have to enforce chores upon an 18yo.
My mom was the biggest meanie when it came to chores. I was 12 when a friend came over unexpectedly & I was scrubbing the bathroom floor with a toothbrush (not a punishment, just time for an extra good cleaning). Never lived that one down.
Unless you are as anal about the cleanliness of your house as my mom is/was, then I have a feeling your daughter is getting off pretty easy. She's 18 now- if she doesn't like the rules she can get her own place & keep it as clean/dirty as she wants, right?!

You're not the only one. According to my kids (15 yo girl and 16 yo boy) I'm the meanest mom in the world because not only do they have chores, but they have to have them done before they can go out, have friends over, etc.
So, inform your daughter that she is wrong. Long live the meanie Moms!

If that is true...which it appears to be growing towards, then it is pretty sad and not funny. You won't believe the trouble I have getting people to do jobs correctly that I pay to have done; the conversations I hear from teachers who can't get the students to do certain jobs in the classroom.
This past summer my wife and I sat in a Denny's restaurant and while waiting we started to feel like it was OUR duty to serve them a meal instead of us (the paying customer). How many times do we all have to wait 20-30 minutes for a hamburger at a fast-food restaurant?
Our nation is in deep trouble, it is time to get on our knees.

That's interesting. My mother showed me how to do stuff and I already knew it was expected of me to do this and that...so I didn't really see it as "chores" very much. It was more of a fact-of-life-it-needs-to-be-done-or-it-won't-get-done situation.

he he.... hey they won't have time to have fun....kids are busy you know..... that's why they have parents to work and slave. Kids need their time to have fun, play on computer games and all the other stuff.
Ask you daughter to change positions with you for just one day.... you can talk on the phone, invite friends over and watch TV and play games on the net.....as her for a one day trade off.... and give her your list of things to be done.... I bet she would never say that again.... hehe

I wish it was funny! I was given chores growing up, but you would not believe the number of kids I knew whose parents treated them like kings and queens, never making them clean. So many kids get to college and have no idea how to do laundry, cook basic foods (even spaghetti!), or even use a broom! It's sad, really.
