While I understand your son's desire to get back out there, the call for "when can I play" should be answered by your doctor. I'd venture 8 weeks minimum if it was a full break. Hairline fracture, maybe 6 weeks. Either way, a broken bone is nothing to rush. The chance of a repeat injury or other complications far outweigh the benefits of playing while hurt. (As a parent of a child who broke her leg playing soccer -- the waiting can be hard for the child at first, but like everything else, they adapt).
Things he can do while sidelined:
- Go the the games and cheer his team on!
- Read books on the game, it's tactics, position play, etc.
- Find another activity to pursue (for my daughter, she started playing piano again)
Also, consider other exercise routines which will allow him to maintain both his strength and endurance while not impacting the shoulder. This was the biggest area my daughter had to overcome. Being sidelined for nearly four months really hit both speed and endurance. She's almost back at 100%, but it hasn't been easy.
Best of luck!

It'll take at least a couple of weeks for the bones to heal, so nothing until then.
You'll need to get follow up x-rays to check on progress, and only let him play hockey again when he gets the thumbs up from the doctor - he could re-injure very easily, especially since there's no real way to immobilize a collar bone.

Yesterday and he wants to play today????? That's absurd. What did the doctor say? You did take him to a doctor, right? Or else how would you know it was broken?
Hockey video or computer games

Might just be a good idea to let HIS DOCTOR figure this out for you!!!!!! Maybe he could read a book or watch tv or go watch the hockey team or learn to bake cookies or beef up on his school work or help little kids do good stuff or write to soldiers at walter reed hospital?

Is this a real question! How can you honestly be thinking about letting him play today. This is something the doctor should have talked to you about. Did you take him to the doctors.

Goodness, didn't you ask the Dr. how long you should have him sit out? Don't ask us, call your Dr. I think to many of us forget about what is important when it comes to sports and our children. Bones healing correctly is very important. If he soesnt sit out long enough, he will just break it again!

Didnt the doctor tell you 6 weeks until it is healed?
Tell him to make his own comic book with drawings and a story.
