How do I go about this. I think she's trying to pull the wool over my eyes and I have policy in place to let her go if she is. She's a mediocre employee and I have trouble with her quality of work all the time and now she claims she couldn't drive back to town (we had a four day weekend) because of sleet. I'd like to check and see if it really did sleet in the areas around Dallas yesterday. If it did, great. I'll cut her slack although in our industry it's REALLY necessary she be here and I have policy that requires discipline (verbal up to termination ) if they miss any of the 5 days before holiday or after. How do I check yesterday's weather?

Sleet is definately a possibility because I'm in Texarkana TX and we had a little this weekend but not on Sunday.

Go to the NOAA site....they have EVERYTHING pertaining even down to a lightning strike. Then again, you'll probaby get some answers from the Dallas area on here. I'm in Florida -- she wouldn't have been able to use that excuse here. I'm surprised if they have sleet in Dallas this time of year.

sleet in texas, that sounds fishy. Especially since I'm from Michigan and we've barely had any sleet/snow or ice. lol In fact I'd say that was the dumbest excuse I've ever heard. but if you want proof when you go to fire her, try going to weather.com and seeing if you can get retro active weather reports.

edit:
I went to weather.com and it only called for light rain. However the temps were low enough that I suppose it could have turned to sleet. I know that slippery weathers handled differently down there then here, so maybe it is plausable.

Sounds like an excuse. There might have been a few minutes of sleet in their someplace, but sure doesn't sound like it was an all-day thing if it happened at all. Unpleasant driving with the rain - sure. But all day sleet - unlikely.

It wasn't sleeting or snowing Sunday however, it was on Thanksgiving day.
