You're right, if people are swayed by an innocuous film with an atheist undertone, their faith isn't very strong at all.
Films like 'The Golden Compass' don't bother me. It's films like 'The DaVinci Code' -- which was a complete perversion of history and full of outright, easily provable lies -- that upset me. Nowadays, soooooo many "Christians" are undereducated in the Scriptures; so when they hear slickly packaged lies with pseudo-theological arguments that they are unable to disarm or comprehend, they're more likely to believe them. (I think that many of the answers seen here on R&S proves my point.) This film perverted the Gospel to the extent that it became something else entirely. THAT'S the kind of film Christians should be up at arms about. Not 'The Golden Compass.'
When it comes out on dvd, I'll probably be first in line to rent it, actually. It looks interesting, although I'll somehow have to move beyond my dislike of Nicole Kidman so I can get into the story.
p.s. -- cute hat, lol.

As a Christian, my concern is not that is would shake my faith. (I have read the books and it did not shake me.) Rather, I am concerned that people who are borderline or neutral may be influenced against the Christian faith. (The purpose the author had in mind when writing the books.)
Will the protest make some additional money for the movie? Probably. But if it keeps even one person from being sucked in by the deliberate brainwashing within the film, it is worth it.

Deke,
I have not seen or read anything about it aside from those who have spoken about it here. It has not even been mentioned at our church. I do not believe that it will be a problem. I do not like some of the Big Movie Stars talking bad about any religious group or placing blame on those of any religious group for anything. I have never seen my church members speak in a threatening manner about anything. I have a loving group that I attend services with and I feel very good about them in and out of our services. If such a movie were to change my opinion then my opinion would not have been very strong but there are Young People who are easily swayed in anything. This is why a number of young people are pulled into Cults of all kinds and crazy things happen that would never happen otherwise. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

It's silly. I am a Christian. I love anything by Tolkien. Harry Potter was cute. I have not seen the movie, but how could watching a movie shape someones religious beliefs..Did watching The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe make everyone Christian..NO.. I swear producers do this to boost sales.

It's not the christian faith that can be shaken. It is the unbelievers that this movie might have an effect on. The possibility that someone could see this movie as fact and not fiction and base their faith upon that is disheartening to a christian.

shake does not mean that faith goes away ( or aray!) it might just be that people of strong faith are shaken to think somethig so stupid is out there in the movies. to each his own tho!!

It is not our faith we are worried about. In my case I just refuse to give my hard earned money to the man who wrote these books.
