i am having my l4 or l5 disc scraped so it doesnt push on the nerve

that's really a question for your orthopedic surgeon but in general with that type of operation physical therapy and/or work can start 4 weeks after the operation.

strengthening up both the lower lumbar and abdominals is extremely important for lower back health.

Your doctor can best answer this question. I have had many clients who with physical therapy and my personal training guidance have make remarkable strides after such surgery.

Hopefully, you are a regular exercise participant. That will aid in your recovery from your surgery. Let you doctor guide down the path of what is safe and not safe and be patient. The last thing you want to do is re-injury yourself.
