Women don't generally get big from working out. Men do because of their testosterone levels.

To get toned you should work on doing lower weight/higher reps and work out each muscle group once a week, along with doing aerobics.

For you to gain muscle like those body builders you got to be on steroids and do repetitive weight lifts focusing on a particular group (biceps). And then lift heavier, and push for heavier again, and pounding back the carbs and protein.
Staying at a low weight will not build muscle like that. Skipping is a good cardio exercize that builds up tone and stamina. So is swimming.

If you dont want to build muscle but just to tone you could try light weights 2 x's a week. Cardio is a great way. Just remember to warm up first and after you need to warm down. You could also try stair climbing to help tone your legs, buttocks. Mix up your routine a bit. Good luck...

There are several types of exercise, which give different results.

What you need (as do most) is a good cardio-vascular regime.

Basically faster muscle movement tones and slims, while improving your heart/lung efficiency. Slower strength-building exercises, like weight lifting, put on bulk.

Cardio combined with something gentle like pilates or yogo for training muscle groups and helping flexibility. I think lunges and squats should be done with no extra weights to stay lean.

well, first of all, you are doing great, however, I recommend doing compound exercises combined with cardio.
Here is an example of a routine you can use:
do all exercises back to back (no more than 30 secs rest)
Jump squat with dumbells (grab two dumbels in each hand and put yourself in a squat position, go the lowest you can and then jump as high as you can, when landing come down easily, and carefull with your posture-back, and knees-
30 push ups
dumbel swing (you can find this on google)
prison squats
rows
hindu push ups or arnold press (this is great to define your arms.
reverse fly
alternate split jump.
good luck

you need 2 walk/run at least 3 times DO NOT bench work (like lifting weights)do sit ups but not so much cuz if u do it 2 much you will get a 6 or8 pack put stop if you feel u getting muscle.then check your doctor to see if u r healthy and get suggestings from him/her
