Are you old enough to remember what happened on dec 7th 1947?

If you were alive then, do you remember where you were when you heard?

What were your thoughts and feelings at that time?

How do you feel NOW?!?

If it happened today, would Bush's critics in Washington, and the media, drag their feet on entering WWII?

Was WWII a righteous war?

DEC 7th. "A Day That Will Live In Infamy"

Why did Hitler's allies attack the USA...waking up a "sleeping giant"?

I stand corrected. It was Dec 7, 1941.
Spell check can't fix number typos.

1942 was the year my mom escaped from Nazi Europe to peace and security here in Canada.

Her parents, my grandparents, were humiliated, scared, robbed, imprisoned, "cleansed" and gassed in a death camp for being Jews. My mom was orphaned by Hitler's "ethnic cleansing" final solution!

This ties WWII in to Dec 10, which is "International Human Rights Day"!!!

Recently I have some Yahoos liken Dec 7th to 9-11.

In many ways it was....suicide mission attacks....unexpected...devastating losses...leading to war...but different in that '41 was "countries waring against countries."

if yo were alive Dec 7, 1941, how did the shock of that day compare with your responce to "9-11"???

I was not yet alive.

On Sept 11th another Dec 7th did happen again.

Fortunately Bush did not drag his feet.

If FDR had acted like Bush, FDR would have gone after Hitler in 1937 before Hitler had time to arm up to control all of Europe.

Many lives have been saved by what GWB has done.

Many lives were lost because the USA, the UK and France, dragged their feet in 1937 and 1938.

It was 1941 by the way. No I was not around in 1941. But there are some comparisons to 9/11. A sneak attack that killed around 3000 Americans. The circumstances of the wars are much different though. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in an attempt to destroy our Pacific fleet, and give them free range to continue unchallenged as they took over Eastern Asia and the Pacific. The terrorists, simply struck at a symbol of America, in an attempt to kill as many people as possible and make a political statement. The bigger difference is that the terrorists have been at war with us for 25 years and no one wanted to notice. Japan went to war with us on Dec 7th, 1941 and declared so.

December 7th was Pearl Harbour, but that was 1941... I have no idea what happened in 1947.

The difference being that WWII was a fight that the Americans were reluctant to get involved in, choosing to leave it to the rest of the world. Pearl Harbour forced them to take action...

The War in Iraq was started by the Americans and was done in opposition to basically the rest of the world. 9-11 was used as an excuse to take action...

The War in Iraq has more in common with Vietnam than WWII...

I reflect every year on Dec. 7. WWII was one of the last 'righteous' wars. The other exceptions being, Korea, Persian Gulf War and the War on Terror. Korea because we defended an independent country against hostile invasion, Persian Gulf for the same reason and TWOT because if we don't wake up and do something now, the muslims will surely destroy us as soon as they are able.

The people who compare TWOT with Vietnam are absolutely correct. We have a strong, highly motivated, optimistic, well-intentioned military and Commander in Chief who are able to prove progress for both Americans and Iraqis. We also have the House and Senate dominated by left-wing America-haters bent on pulling down the greatest nation on Earth at any cost as long as they can have a power monopoly. So yes, call it Vietnam 2.

No two wars are exactly the same and countries don't always go to war for the same reason. I was very young during WW11 but I can remember the gas and food rationing and as I got a little older I realized how everyone sacrificed to help the war effort and how the returning troops were treated like heroes. I don't think the American people to-day would be willing to make the same sacrifices that their grand parents made in WW11. I think most of the other countries realize this and that is one reason we are losing their respect . They are not afraid to challenge us because they think that we won't stand our ground and fight.

There is one thing you are correct with but it's with a might have been. If Winston Churchill would have ascended to the prime minister postion in the early 1930's. His position on germany rearming in contravention of the treaty of Versailles-most likely would have been to take Hitler out before he became a major threat to European stability. Had he been able to convince parliment of this and the British military toppled Hitlers regime-Sir Winston would have been pilloried mercilessly in the European press by all of the pseudo-intellectual appeasers. Neville Chamberlain perhaps would have been the Al Gore of his time--proclaiming to the masses that had they followed his advice they would have had "peace in our time". Sir Winston most likely would have gone done as the worst Bristish Prime minister in history--with the world never knowing the 30,000,000 lives that weren't lost by waiting until Hitler was too strong. Me thinks GWB and Tony Blain didn't want to finish daddy's war--he simply did not want to repeat the same historical mistake that Europe did in 1939.

I think you're getting your facts mixed up (not including the date issue). We entered WWII after we were blatantly attacked by Japan and after Hitler declared war on us. Iraq had nothing (comparatively) to do with 9/11 and that has been proven and admitted. No country has officially declared war on us. We are currently fighting a fanatical religious group that is not confined to one country. So yeah... there are no grounds for comparisons there. Sorry. You'll have better luck comparing this to Vietnam... Even that is a bit of a stretch.

No war has ever brought lasting peace.
For all Law vs Law is as Loser vs Loser.
Fighting for peace is as fornicating for chastity.

So let us have Grace is Sufficient (no law req'd).

GRACE with you all. Amen... Hebrews 13:25
But not the partiality grace in the Noah's Ark story;
since Noah's listed in the hall of shame of Heb 11.
So: The GRACE of our Lord JC... Revelation 22:21

WW2 is Vastly different than what we are in today. Todays war is a mess. Pearl harbor and 911 are totally different.
