It has nothing to do with how long. You will need to get a waiver for any criminal charges you have ever had and prove you are cleared of any pending legal/criminal stuff. It will be up to the Army to decide if they will allow you to enlist with your background. Just because it is something you want to do, there is a ton more things involved in enlisting in the military. If you are done with your probation go talk to an Army recruiter and disclose EVERYTHING. He will then be able to work with you and help you enlist. If you lie or hold things back they WILL find out and you will too, you will never be able to enlist again. Tell the truth and you will be fine.

Talk to your recruiter. But I think in this day and age you will stand no chance of joining. When I was in the army about 1 in 25 was given the choice by a judge (join the service or go to jail) now they just put you on probation and that messes up your chances for joining.

Depending on the state you live in if there is no time left to serve on your sentence being held over your head then you are fine unless you were charged with a felony then depends on the felony they will work with you. I suggest you talk to a recruiter near you.

as long as you have satisfactorily completed all fines, punishments and probations, you can inquire now. you will need to disclose EVERYTHING. the reason you were put on probation in the first place may be a Disqualifier, however.
