God's plan of salvation was successfully accomplished with Christ's death and resurrection. It included the predestined salvation of individuals, many of whom were not even born. That's why Jesus prayed "I do not pray for these alone [the first disciples] but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they all may be one... that the world may believe that you sent me." (Jn 17:20-21)
So belief follows the word preached by Christ's followers. However, the Bible also says that the demons believe in God - and shudder! (James 2:19) Such belief will not save them, or humans whose belief in God or Christ's existence does not move them to believe the good news about salvation in Christ. Further, God sends unrighteous ones a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie "that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2 Thess 2:9-12)
I mention this to flag up the need to know WHAT kind of belief brings salvation. There are false gospels being preached, belief in which will not save anyone. The gospel of salvation is believed by those who recognise that all their righteous acts are as filthy rags (Isa 64:5-7). All this is part of the seamless garment of salvation, designed before time began, woven through history till the cross and the empty tomb and freely given to those who confess their need to be forgiven when they believe in Christ.

Salvation comes with a price...that you firmly believe in God. Therefore, belief must come before salvation.
There are those, you may say, that have not believed and yet have been saved...but they were believers at the point of death and were saved.
God bless you.

He must believe the gospel, or the testimony of God concerning the
Person and work of Christ. I John 5:9-10.
As a lost and guilty sinner he must believe that Christ died for him, individually; that Christ bore his sins, took his place and, by His death, accomplished all the work needed for his salvation. Romans 4:5.

Maybe we should add another word......repentance first, then belief , tthen salvation. The time frame of all this is so small I can't define it.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
O ye People of the Book! believe in what We have (now) revealed, confirming what was (already) with you, before We change the face and fame of some (of you) beyond all recognition, and turn them hindwards, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers, for the decision of Allah Must be carried out.
Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed.
Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay-but Allah Doth sanctify whom He pleaseth. But never will they fail to receive justice in the least little thing

Paulo and loko lobo have it right.
Romans 10:17 (King James Version) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Hebrews 11:6 (King James Version) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hope I helped. God bless you.

Without faith you can't be saved BUT here's the cool thing. We are saved by grace, His death on the cross in our place. But he did it before we believed. He gave his life while we were still sinning against him. So while we must believe to be saved, he died for us first.
