Hello,
I had vertigo about a week ago. My doctor prescribed me Antivert which is a meclizine prescription. It had been getting better over about three days but then It acted up again. It wasn't nearly as bad as before but it was worse than the other days. This morning I had trouble sleeping and have been feeling somewhat nausious and a little dizzy again. My questions are about how long will the vertigo symptoms last? and How long should I wait before calling my doctor?
I have other symptoms too and you can comment on them if you feel it will help : Ringing in my ears and slight flashing in my eyes but only once for about a second.

Thank you for any replies,

Eric

Honestly I have to thank all of you so much. It hasn't gotten worse and I'm continuing to take the Antivert. I'm not really worried now because of what some of you said about the length of symptoms. My biggest fear was having to deal with this for a long time. I understand it may still happen but I feel better. Thank you, while the symptoms are unpleasant the worst part is not knowing when it may stop.

Eric

i had the viral form of vertigo, it is called labrinthitis... it takes about 2 weeks to completely dissipate....if you take the over the counter chewables called bonine, it will help with the dizziness..... also a motion sickness medication will help... believe me, i feel your pain... hope you feel better soon!!!

The Antivert is intended to be used every time you have episodes of vertigo. Sometimes, this can be an inner ear complication of mild head congestion and takes time to go away. It CAN return at any time, some people have it frequently, others go years between bouts. I would be taking my medication on a regular basis and at least one day after the disappearance of any symptoms. The ringing and slight flashing occur in everyone. It only needs attention when it becomes constant. You can call you doctor if you choose but they will advise you to get back to taking your Antivert on a regular basis and then call them only if it doesn't resolve the symptoms.

I don't believe in most meds given by american doctors. Bandaids at best!!! in some cases (like yours),,can do more harm than good.
Drink lots of water,,,do deep breathing ,,,try to oxegenate your system naturally as oxegen deprivation is what causes vertigo.
Good luck and good health!

They don't enlarge our stomach to take out your gallbladder. Your gallbladder is under the liver..There can be post surgical problems like diarrhea, food intolerance, problems you have have encountered before your surgery but they get better..if you are having these problems 4 years after your surgery then I would see your doctor and if not satisfied get a second opinion.

I have this, still recovering finally can look at the computer again! It could be inner ear problems or damage, I suggest you get a referal to see a neurologist to make sure you are not goign to get it again and see whta caused it. They say symptoms can last 3-8 weeks but i have had it for 3 weeks, its finally calmed down but still have movement in my vision not too bad now. Hope u feel better.
