Asking about the Sun would not be smart. They've no doubt read the articles in the Source below, which prove it's not the Sun.
Changes in the Sun have affected climate in the past.
But the Sun is carefully measured and we know it's not causing the present warming. Solar radiation has been DECREASING slightly for a number of years. Proof (from the Source below):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6290228.stm
A good question to ask would be why some people refuse to believe the scientific proof that global warming is real, and mostly caused by us.
It's a simple calculation to show that the small increase in CO2 is what's causing the present warming, because it holds more of the Sun's heat in, enough to overcome the small decrease in solar radiation. Proof (from the Source below):
http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png
So ask him why people don't agree with the scientists? Like these:
"While evidence suggests fluctuations in solar activity can affect climate on Earth, and that it has done so in the past, the majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists agree that the sun is not to blame for the current and historically sudden uptick in global temperatures on Earth, which seems to be mostly a mess created by our own species."

Try to relate your questions to your school; questions that you AND your classmates would like answered. (Ask your classmates for questions). For example ...
Q1:
Do you have a lunchroom, does the school provide lunch or do you bring your own? What are his views on recycling/composting programs in schools for the waste food and packaging? How will he implement those programs and where will the money come from? If he doesn't want to put taxes up, will he make cutbacks to other programs? Will those cuts be, say, no more intramural sports, or dropping music or art from the curriculum?
Q2:
Waste paper generated by the school could be greatly reduced if there were computers available to do assignments and write tests, even a school website where you could sign in and do your assignments from home ("E-learning" - that way they wouldn't have to buy as many computers). Does he support the use of technology to make schools more efficient and environmentally friendly? Again, how would he implement that and where would the money come from?
Tell him that the Environment AND school are very important to you at this time in your life and you want to know how he is going to improve them BOTH.
If he just smiles and says he'll look into it, tell him that is no answer, he is just avoiding the question, and you would never vote for a person with no real answers to your concerns.
AND you will tell your parents not to vote for him as soon as you go home!

Question: As we meet in our school buildings, how much energy does it take to change the climate in our class rooms?
How much energy does it take to change the climate in large office buildings and homes across America? How much energy does it take to change the climate on a global scale?
Question: Should the USA contribute more money to fund additional science and research? If we already know there's a problem, shouldn't the USA cut funding towards research on global climate change?
Question: What government sanctions should the USA (as well as the UN) place on China and India to help curb global warming?
Question: Studies have shown that crime rises during the summer as well as ice cream sales. But that doesn't mean increased ice cream sales cause higher crime. Are we making the same logic error by attributing higher average temperatures to rising CO2 levels? What are the other causes for global warming and should they be examined more thoroughly before making decisions on how to stop global warming?

Recent scientific evidence shows that global warming is occuring on Earth as well as on Mars. Some believe that this suggests that the global warming here on Earth may be linked to changes in the sun rather than by humans pumping massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Would you agree with this.

Show the temperature/CO2 traces of the referenced plot around the period 125,000 years ago. Query, "Why would you feel it necessary to spend estimated trillions of dollars globally to reduce CO2 levels when the historical record shows that elevated CO2 levels do not impede cooling?"
---
Smarccas, spending 0.5% to achieve a reduction in CO2 levels when such reductions are unnecessary for temperatures to fall, is just as stupid as spending 100%. The data is clear. CO2 levels do not begin to rise until after temperatures do, so CO2 does not cause warming. And temperatures fall precipitously in the presence of elevated CO2 levels meaning CO2 does not impede cooling.
Your analysis seems to indicate that just because your car won't run on water, at least water is cheap so let's fill up with it! Do you really want people to listen to such claptrap?

Ask how we can change the minds of those members of the public who do not understand that global warming is real and a problem.

ask him what kind of SUV's they have on Mars cause they are going through global warming also........
while we need to be realistic about environment, there is no real evidence that man has done anything to create the "global warming trend" that we are experiencing......
the only people stressing the global warming trend is the ones that have huge profits to gain from getting everyone to believe there is an actual crisis.... get the sheep to empty their pockets and viola, you got a rich superhero.... Al Gore has made so much money on his global warming agenda it is ludicrous.....
if Global Warming is so serious, why is it the ones that have profited from global warming the most not living what they preach....
a possible good question is to ask the professional what kind of car they drive... it will speak volumes of what they really feel the truth is...if they tell you the truth.,...
Al Gores inconvenient truth... $30,000 annual utility bill for one home, he has many homes this was just one home in particular.....

As we have had several ice ages in the past, each separated by global warming, why are we getting so upset over this current global warming period?

Well if you are in the USA ask them when they are going to start RECYCLING.
Why is the USA not getting on board in reducing greenhouse gasses same as the rest of the countries are being asked to do?
Did you know in Canada here we recycle paper, plastic, aluminum, separate our wet garbage from dry garbage and it's turned into compost?
When are they going to create legislation to combat the toxic carcinogenic (cancer causing) emissions factories emit?
When are they going to do away with burning FOSSIL FUELS, namely coal, which causes 30 percent of the pollution which crosses over into CANADA.
When are they going to stop using TOXIC pesticides on crops? Spraying poison in the air with planes carries it everywhere including into your LUNGS.
When are they going to stop buying crap from countries who are killing thier people both with inhumane conditions and toxic chemicals?
Oh boy, I could go on and on and on.
By the way do some reading here so you can ask even more educated questions:

Dr T
The US Spends more than 4% of GPD on defence. Its suggested that to combat global warming it would only cost 0.5%. If teh ocean rose and wrecked coastal infastructure or crops failed or floods trashed town it would cost much more.
Ask him what measures he thinks should be taken to imporove energy efficency or to reduce emissions.
