Where I work, alot of people like to talk about me behind my back. My boss likes to go around the office and ask people what they think about my work, customer service and technical skills. They will get credit for talking about me and if a little made up personal gossip is thrown in, great.

It took me 5 months to get this job, so quitting right away is not an option. My boss will not tell me who is tattle telling about me but I can guess. What should I do?

talk to your boss, tell him if he has any questions about you , you would be happy to answer them directly. Polish up your resume, this sounds like a crappy place to work.

From what you are telling me, if your boss is asking others about your work etc., it would tend to suggest that for what ever reason he is interested in you.

I would reccommend setting up a meeting with your boss to discuss your work performance and ways that he may suggest improving. Make sure he understands your desire to be in the position you have.

Above all else, do not, I repeat do not bring up other workers and the office gossip you believe may be going on. If you do, it willl likely do more harm than benefit your career.

My grandfather use to tell me never to be concerned if people are talking about you. Good or bad, at least they know who you are and it is only you that can proof them right or not.

One last thing I try to remember and that is our biggest opportunities lay at the feet of our problems.

Hi there,

Boy I sure can relate to your position. What I did when this was happened to me, I told my boss that I really needed to speak to him privately. I requested that he let me know when it would be a convenient time for him.

When I spoke to him privately, I told him how dedicated, and loyal I am to my job. I told him my accomplishments, and explained to him that people can be really catty, which I am sure he could appreciate.

In other words, I spoke calmly, sincerely, and from my heart. He realized my sincerity, and it was smooth sailing all the way. Realize that he is humane too.

Good luck, I do empathize with you.

Your boss should be using his own observations to judge your work performance; it's a poor manager who needs to ask your co-workers about how you are going. Unfortunately, those he asks will of course say anything detrimental about you in order to increase their own position within the workplace.

Keep your reputation spotless. While this is going on, be very vague about your social and personal life and never make personal calls from work. Make a point of keeping your personal life to yourself and be vague if coworkers ask what you did on the weekend, etc. Never talk about a co-worker to another.

Become the perfect employee. Don't have breaks if you're not entitled to them even if everyone else does. Work harder than everyone else.

If you can guess who is providing negative feedback to your boss, go out of your way to be pleasant to them. Praise them for their work and ask them how they think you could improve to make their job easier.

It's a difficult situation for you to be in, and with limited information about what exactly has been said about you, this is the best advice I can give.

Good luck with it. I know from experience how hard it can be.

1st of all, your boss shouldnt be involving anyone in your job performance, how unprofessional.... she is opening a can of worms right there and giving your co workers something to gossip about... thats not right, I would hunt around for another job, stop asking your boss who is talking about you because it sounds like your boss is the one who is starting it all..... go to work, do your job, your not there to make friends, and go home.

How bizarre! Is this a job or first year high school?
Do you hear your boss asking them about you? How do you know its happening?
Does your boss ask you about other workers?

Start talking about the boss and see what happens!!

i have an excellent suggestion which works all the time for me.

confront the person involved and question them about their tales. That will stop their tale-telling about you.
