Soft drinks. Even at a formal dinner with Royalty present it is fine to toast the Queen rather than wine. For some people it's religious, some addiction related, and some just practical.

If the sole purpose of the parties you are being invited to is to get smashed and you are a non-drinker, then perhaps you should find a different crowd to party with. It is never fun to be the only sober person in a room full of drunks.

On the other hand, if the barbecue focuses of the grill rather than booze, most people won't bat an eyelash if you forego the beer in favor of a lemonade. Tonic water on the rocks can also be a life-saver.

Can you not talk? Smile? Interact with others?

You don't NEED to drink to be sociable, though as the night wears on, you will not find things as funny as those who have been drinking...

Perhaps something chemical would help you instead... remember - reality is for people who can't handle drugs

Drink has nothing to do with sociable. It's the interaction between people. Talk to people, that's being social and have fun!

Bring your own drink in a bottle of juice or whatever and carry that with you. Like a big bottle so it lasts a while. That way no one will offer you a drink :)

I've not drunk for 23 years, and don't seem to have a problem whether I drink coke, iced tea, Sprite, soda or plain water. Adults don't care....if your friends do care, then consider that the problem, not your abstinence.

I do not drink alcoholic beverages. I don't like them.
I tell them politely that I don't drink alcoholic beverages.
I really don't care what people may think about me not drinking such kind of beverages.
