Would you exchange the communion of your own heart for the toy balloons of silly conversations? Or your curiosity for others' flickering interests? Or your despair for peoples' comfortable Hope?

never exchange for small gains

I wouldn't make the exchange; I'd rather be myself. There's an old saying, "better the devil you know." To me, it means that no matter what your problems may be, it's easier to deal with familiar problems than the problems of strangers. If I despair, I need to work through it my own way, not accept others' advice without serious consideration. I don't think it would be possible anyway; it would be a band-aid placed on a serious wound. In the end, I'd have to deal with it in my own way and this time it would be more difficult. So, away with the "silly conversations" and the "flickering interests" of others. I must be who I am, for good or for bad---and so must you!!

The first question I read as having a laugh over being deep and meaningful - so yes, as life is too short.
My curiosity for others flickering interests...ummm my curiosity is always going to prevail as superficiality - well I can read about that every day in the press or look at Paris Hilton or Posh Spice in some magazine or promotional.
The third is harder as it is implying (again to me) that others feelings should come before mine. Which is all very noble and self sacrificing, but the reality is if I am not happy in myself how can I possibly genuinely make anyone else happy?
The upshot is it may be ingrained in our society as a core value (very rarely put into practice) that being selfish is a 'bad' thng. Sometimes we have to be realisitic and realise that a bit of selfishness is a necessity, as we are no good to anyone if we are 'biter and resentful' because we have sacrificed everything for a seemingly ungrateful world!

Umm... "no" to the first two and it depends on how real the "comfortable Hope" is and how bad my despair for the third.

I'm rather hoping you'll explain the point of this question when you pick a best answer, because I haven't a clue what you're driving at.

hmmm...

What is the communion of my heart? (I've never heard that expression before...)

No, I'll keep my curiosity.

Yes... I would gladly give up feeling disparaged for feeling comfortable and Hopeful like other people...
If you mean, would I put my despair on them in return - no, I don't try to make others feel worse so I can feel better... not cool.

I have learned from experience that it is always best to trust my instincts, that no person can answer my questions or save me, & that very often peroids of despair will open into wonder & awe. No, I would not trade.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I would trade nothing of mine for something of anothers as I'm secure in myself and my place in the world. I have questions that no religious faith will answer, but, if I'm supposed to have answers they'll be answered.
