It depends on her interests.
You can get/make cute/ snazzy little trinket boxes, put lip gloss/balms in it, trinkets, mirror, some stationary - whatever the girl is into which you should be able to find out..
And yeah just load a box full of little things. like a stocking filler stuff

I have a friend across the street and she is 10 years old. She really likes webkinz. You buy the plush toy at a store and it comes with a code. When you get home you go on webkinz.com and you hit the new member button and create you account and enter in the code that came with the plush toy. It is like an on line pet. I have one webkinz. They are very fun! You can design a house for you webkinz, play games in the arcade, and buy really cool stuff! That is my recommendation for a birthday gift for a 10 year old.

Why not take her shopping and get her what she wants.
You could make a shopping certificate for her and wrap this up so she has something to open. You could make it a girly day out.
At 10, anything goes really. Most 10's I know are enthusiastic about anything they receive. Games, music, stylish clothing; books. She's about the same age as my cousin. I always buy her something that she can do instantly like arty / crafty stuff. Jewelry making etc.

does she like mysteries? if so get her a Nancy Drew game they're so fun. Or if she's into music and i-pod if she dosent have one. If she likes clothes take her shopping for a bit -also good sister sister time- . Or if she likes art a sketch book a couple of sketch pencils,some colored pencils, some markersand a couple of erasers. A bookworm? Get her some books from Barnes & Noble. Or maybe you could get her some earrings or something from Claires. If you dont know what she likes get her a ift card from somewhere.Have fun!

As she is ten, she is probably quite happy with a lot of things. Something that she has really wanted for a long time would be the best bet - she will know you listen to her and love her because you got her what she wanted. If she takes special care of her things, you could get her her first silver necklace or bracelet - this would be special to her however you don't want it lost. You could also bake her a cake to accompany an array of gifts. The cake will surely be appreciated because you have put your time and effort into it. Decorate it and she will really love it. Gift card for a book store- my 9 and 12 year old neices love them. They can get books of course, but also journals, candles, mini book lights, even cd's in some bigger stores. Lets them chose what they want.
