The correct phrase is "Cross to bear" it refers to something or someone for whom you suffer and sacrifice for, usually a cause or a loved one. It is a metaphor taken from Jesus Christ's act of bearing a heavy cross all the way to the hill where he was crucified for the sins of others. An example of a "cross to bear" may be a son, brother or sister who always gets into trouble and you are always bailing him or her out or a boyfriend, husband who constantly cheats but you still accept and love.
