We find our own 'purpose'.
Sometimes it is a curse to be forever wondering 'why'? Instead of living...
Most of that goes when we have or adopt children, then the 'why' turns to 'because' ...
PS Your question had to many assumptions to be considered a good question, i.e.
'If life is eternal and everything under the sun is vanity'
What?
You then answered your own leading question:
"Everyone's life is special and has a specific purpose to live for and please our creator"
OK, so we wasted our time answering a non-question with your own built-in answer. A preach, in other words.
Ho-hum...

My purpose in life is to live for myself, period. I might show some concern for family and friends, but I'm ultimately here to seek my own gratification and not be manipulated by people who claim to talk to an invisible guy.
This is my last post on Yahoo Answers as this is an utter waste of time. So thumbs-down away if you'd like, trolls!

To live on it forever, without having to die...and to look after it.
(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
(Revelation 7:9) After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.
(Psalm 37:9) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
(Psalm 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.
(Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].
These scriptures cover all aspects.
God wants us to enjoy ourselves.
(Micah 4:4) And they will actually sit, each one under his vine and under his fig tree, and there will be no one making [them] tremble; for the very mouth of Jehovah of armies has spoken [it].
(Psalm 72:16) There will come to be plenty of grain on the earth; On the top of the mountains there will be an overflow. His fruit will be as in Leb′a·non, And those who are from the city will blossom like the vegetation of the earth.
This must be future as it has never happened yet on the earth.

My purpose of my life on earth is to learn.
I plan to spend my eternity where everyone elce spends theirs. Don't really have a choice, do I. Only so many religions can be right, and whatever happens to happen happens.

The purpose of mankind on earth is not understood we are not here for only our own lives .but to build earth, which GOD made it with that care and beauty for mankind,(but we spoiled it),GOD send ADAM and his children on earth as vicegerents to build, and fix earth according to God's deputy by implementing his rullings therin, correcting wrongs in others belief as u can, fixing and correcting society and people is not job of priests or leaders every one must have his rule and finally,
to be examined by God ,to see who is best worked to be rewarded by heaven where is eternity is deserving that effort.

Rabindranath Tagore has said that "every child comes with the message that God in not disappointed with mankind yet!"
He keeps sending peple on to establish that His purpose of creation of man is to acknowledge His blessings ,worship Him and scruplously follow His dictats. Further, as between men , one has to empathize wth his brother man!

GOD has taken your form on this earth so that he can experience himself through you as we all are part of GOD and not apart from GOD and can realise that :
1. We have to put GOD first
2. Perform our routine job without hurting anyone
3. Serve needy fellow beings or other parts of GOD selflessly
4. Spread joy .....with some good sense of humour.
We are like waves who have taken a temporary shape and will merge back into ocean called GOD once we die.
GOD BLESS!!!
