TELL HER you love her. THANK HER for everything she's done and sacrificed for you. HUG HER and make her feel how much you love her. Everything else is secondary to that.

Okay well you said stay away from the certificate notion for hair nails etc... but what about having a mother daughter ish kind of morning.. both go and have a manicure done at the same time... (or a spa pedicure, very relaxing) things like that that you can do together is nice because it is time together as well as whatever it was you did. (I did this with my mum once, she loved it) Other wise have a bunch of roses delivered... This is lovely as most mothers rarely have flowers sent to them anymore. I think the most wonderul thing would be to take her for a walk along the beach at sun set or sun rise and just spend time with her. The gift is like you say not really a huge deal by this time.

Some special things I've done for my Mom is to throw her a birthday party with the help of other relatives and make a photo album for her. I made a really nice one with all the pictures labelled and fun stickers on them.
Other than that, maybe the two of you could do something special together...go to a nice show or something you both like to do together.
Best Wishes!

Whisk her away just the two of you and both get full message's and pampered for the day. They oil & rub you down, message your back shoulders, legs, feets and face! TOTAL BLISS!! It will be a lasting memory for both of you but you have to go together....It will get rid of all her tension, frustrations & worries at least for a little while. And her & her muscles will feel young again. I know I'm 46 & I'd love that with my own daughter which is 23!!

you could always just write a a sweet letter telling her, what she means to you, and what she has taught you,as a child growing up. Throw in some I hope i am just like you, and when you have children, you knwow how special and how much they are gonna love her. Tell it from the heart.

you can make a little "coupon book"..with "good for" chores & stuff like "good for doing dishes" "good for laundry" and stuff like that...it's a little kiddy, but it gets a little off her back :)...or you can get a bunch of photos of you when you were a child, photos of her holding you and such, then making it into one big collage...or see if you can have a photoshop put them all together and make a big 10x13 or bigger photo to put in a frame for her...then decorate that frame with little things like rose petals, kisses & stuff :).......idk, just a suggestion...............DreO
