Well recently my pet dog was attacked by my 2 neighbours pig dogs when my dog was peacefully lying in my front yard. THe 2 dogs jumped the fence and started attacking my dog, and my dog was ripped up underneath her belly and has since had $700 worth of surgery to fix her up. If this was to happen again and i was to accidently kill the pig dog as last time i was smacking the absolute mind my language, CRAP out of it and it would not let go of my pet. Eventually the neighbour came and broke the fight up after 5 mins of fighting. THe next time this occurs i plan to use a steel pole but am afraid i will get in trouble if i kill it. I do not wish my pet to die as it has been with the family for 9 years. Will i get in trouble if accidently kill or no?

As much as I love dogs and thats a lot..I would have no problem with defending my dogs by any means possible.
If the dogs that attacked your dog comes back do whatever is necessary to defend your pet.And I mean ANYTHING.

Wow is all I can say, I know quite a few pigging dogs from Australia also and they are not vicious towards other dogs at all. That is a definate trait that a good pigger shouldn't have. The pig hunters I know don't want dogs to attack each other as all their dogs are quite valuable to them. I take my dog on regualr visit to friends of ours with pig hunting dogs and I have never had an incident. So I can say no way are all pigging dogs like this, this is very obvious to me that these pig hunters are very irresponsible and I am sure if you contact your local council and report this matter it be dealt with in the appropriate manner. You already have enough evidence and here in Oz there are laws about another dog attacking yours.
Good luck
Edit : Yes do be careful of the dogs and the owners, there is no need for a good pigging dog to be this vicious to be an effective pig hunter, so I can only guess the owners may be a bit ruthless also.

Even though you weren't there, send her a sincere letter of apology and offer to pay for the dog. She may or may not accept depending, so give her the option. This really isn't entirely the dog's fault. You had two dogs of vastly different sizes. Small dogs always lose in a fight with a larger dog. Your dad should have known better than to leave the room with food in the mix. Can't believe no one heard the fight or attack, but it seems obvious your dog killed the smaller dog. You will have to consider him other dog aggressive at this point and make sure he is not around other dog's without a muzzle. Don't know if you can or want to trust your Dad with this responsibility since he really made a bone headed mistake already. It's your dog, but your Dad will be found responsible should something happen since he is caretaking the dog. Hate to see a nice dog be put down for one very preventable mistake. Just weigh your options and make your decision.

Here in Louisiana if anything or anyone comes onto your property and damages it in any way you are allowed to kill them. I don't think that you would get into trouble at all. However, I am not sure on the area you live in, what I would do is call your local police department or animal control and ask them. Then you will know for 100% ccertain and give you a piece of mind! Good luck and hope your baby gets to feeling better!
Edit: Also, I'm guessing by pig-dog you mean a pig baiting dog as in a pit bull or an American bulldog...be careful they are extremely tough dogs, I'd hate for you to get hurt in the process!

I'd kill them & worry about that later!!! And it wouldn't be no accident either! Save your dog! Be careful they might turn on you as well, always have protection with you. Club, gun, an HATCHET or AX!! If you were worried to much, after you "accidentally" kill them, haul them off but only if no one sees you! I think there are laws about vicious dogs being restrained, penned or tied up. If one comes into your yard you just assume it is going to hurt you, your family or your pet, so you have the right to protect them. You could sue the owners of the dogs for vet bills incurred by the attack! And to yourself for mental anguish from seeing it happen! I hope your

If you're trying to protect your pet in YOUR yard - or anywhere for that matter - I don't think you'd be in the wrong if something happened to the attacking dogs. But as vicious as these dogs sound I wouldn't advise - what if they turn and attack you as well? Have you reported these attacks to animal control? These dogs should not be coming into your yard - period. Whose fence is it they're jumping? I'd put up a higher fence - with barbed wire if needed - to keep those nasty beasties out.
Oh and thanks for the clarification of "pig dog" - I was picturing this godawful pitbull/warthog looking creature lol

Well look into the local laws on pets. Because I had a personal experience like that, our neighbors had two rotwiellers and they came and killed 12 of our sheep and 2 of our chickens, my brother-in-law had his shot gun and killed one of the dogs, because he would not leave, he was continuing to kill more of the sheep. So he shot him in the head. Well the cops came and took a report and we visited the neighbors and they pressed charges on us. Well it turned out the law states that if a pet was on our land, they are trespassing and if they kill livestock we had all rights to do whatever it takes it to stop it. It wasint in that exact words, but the rangers made it clear we had rights to shoot at the dogs. So look into your local laws and see what you come up with, it could get ugly they can press charges and you could go to jail and pay a hefty fine for killing someone else's pet.

You should call animal control or the police. Your neighbor needs to control his animals!
Oh and take your neighbor to small claims court for your $700. He is responsible!
Good luck!
