Water is #1 priority. You will die in matter of days without water. Next priority, depending on the climate is probably shelter or clothing. Then next step is food. You can go without food for a month.

Since we are sufficient in providing ourselves with the basic needs (food, shelter, water)... I would say that to survive in today's society, one would need to have:
affection, purpose, and passion.
affection: love from the family, friends, or a significant other, to make you feel that you are needed.
purpose: either to live a good life and do good ((going to heaven for the religious)) or trying to raise a family or community
passion: doing what you like to do with life. people just get burned out quickely with their 9 to 5 jobs, doing something they hate, every single day. either you get a career you like or have a healthy escape from life--like having a hobby or sport

SEX!!!!
BECAUSE:
I can live on the beach naked in South Florida or somewhere that always stays the same temperature and wouldn't need clothes. I could catch fish to eat or trap animals for food or eat the fruit off of the trees. And since the climate was the same year round and moderate, I wouldn't need much but a grass hut or cave covering for shelter.
And I while I could always do it myself, I would sooner or later need someone to help me with sex or I might just go crazy.

If your talking about life functions, lack of air would cause you to die in minutes.
But if you mean in general, then it's life sustaining Medication, cause if I could just be alive, I would find food/water, make shelter, use something as clothing, etc. But I have to be alive to do that!

I would rather die than living in hell. Everything thing that keeps me breathing and living in a happy life are essential.

do u mean like LITERALLY 'to survive?' or are you asking which one we would 'just die without!?!"
um, otherwise, i'd say it's pretty obvious...food/water
unlesss of course you are in an extreme climate that you would die from quickly...
personally, not literally what do i consider 'essential' ? food! i'm in the restaurant biz so i'm jobless without it!
