I'm asking for one for Christmas-which do you prefer? The shiatsu kind or the vibrating kind? I'm looking for something to target upper back pain.

Why do you want a back massager? The best thing is a kitchen rolling pin. Lay it on the floor and roll yourself across it.

Those things are a piece of crap - don't buy one because they don't work very well. Trust me on this one. I have tried them all out. They sell some more expensive ones at Sharper Image that actually work and if I ever have the extra cash, I will buy one there. Better yet, go get a pedicure. The massage/spa chairs they have feel like a real massage. Or you could ask a really cute guy to massage your back...
