My cat has major fleas. He had a flea collar but did not like it (obviously) and would take it off. Today I got bit and gave him like a twenty minute flea bath. He hated it and when he started to claw I rinsed him and let him go. But he still has fleas on him (will the flea shampoo take some time to kill them, or will they live?). I washed all the bedding, sprinkled flea powder on the carpets... but I am afraid the fleas still on him will just reproduce and keep coming. What will work!?

I'm afraid the fleas will not flee as long as you're using flea shampoo! This sort of stuff REALLY doesn't work - neither do flea collars. Your cat was saying 'get this useless thing off me!' when he kept pulling it off!

Seriously. You will not find any useful flea treatments in a pet store - stores are not licensed to sell the drugs that are both effective and safe for flea treatment.

You need to get some proper flea treatment from a vets. Frontline, Revolution, Advocate and Advantage are all excellent. These are spot-ons - liquid in a pipette that you apply to the back of the cats neck. Much easier than bathing, for you and the cat! Just make sure you get whichever you buy right on the skin of the cats, not their fur, and they will be sorted for at least a month. You have to wait 48 hours after bathing before you can apply any though, as you have to wait for the natural oils of the skin to return or the spot-ons cannot spread through the skin and will not work properly. You must not bath for at least 48 hours after applying either.

I'm afraid the same goes for your house - what you've used probably isn't going to work, you need to get a treatment from a vets.

Flea collars are basically useless.
Bathes are only temporary,.. kills the fleas on body,.. at the time.
USE Advantage (drops on back) or Program (monthly tab.) if kitty's not in a multi-pet household.
These are effective and easier to use that'll give a positive result for both poor itch'in cat and you.
Saves you $ and a lotta scratches in the long run!

Hope this helps.

Use Frontline or K9 Advantix to kill the fleas... collars and baths don't work. Also, if your home is infested with fleas, you need to get a flea bomb to kill the ones in the carpets and on the furniture.

Put some Advantage on your cat first. This will kill anything that's on him now. To make sure you take care of the ones in the house, the most effective thing to do is to set off pesticide bombs. After you do that, vacuum your carpet very thoroughly. If you want to be extremely thorough, you could bomb again in 2 weeks to kill any eggs that you might have missed before (since that's about the time that they would hatch) so that you don't have to worry about them biting you.

Fleas are HORRIBLE!!! I hate them. I have had to deal with this problem so many times. I found some links on an all natural website. I will send you the links I have used these remedies myself and they totally work. The best part is they are safe for our furry friends. Good luck with the pests.

Sprinkle salt in the carpet,, leave it,, and seek a vet for Advantage,, it is expensive but worth it.. go to PetSmart I think they will not not require an office visit,, if they do they have free well kitten check up days..

garlic can be dangerous to some cats, and i'd opt out of it, if i were you.

talk to your vet, or do a yahoo search about getting rid of fleas... your cat might do well with flea drops (advantage or another good brand made specifically for cats)... do not use hartz, is my best advice.
