It should only be about if we are taking up that Cross with Jesus, if we believe Jesus went to the cross for our sins, and see the bigger picture, when we have The Lord we will become better people, and not try to find a million different definitions for being saved.

For April :
First of all I AGREE ! Parents should not tell their children that the Santa that flys raindeer and comes down chimneys is real . It distorts their sense of logic and causes severe emotional conflict when they find out the truth . How many Christian parents do you know that tell their children the Santa myth ?
But beyond that , parents "forget" to inform their children that both the Santa story AND the God story are myths . So people grow up with all sorts of logic distortions and emotional stress as they try to reconcile the myths of the Bible with reality . ( For example the religious bans on eating pork , shell fish , masturbation and pre maritial sex .)
And of couse many here will remind you , we don't rebel against god . We don't believe there IS a god . We don't rebel against the Easter Bunny either !

Great since "Religion makes moral demands on us and Christianity asks that we all we move outside of ourselves and first consider the welfare of the other person" can I expect a mass movement away from Conservatism and towards Socialism ? It would seem like the logical choice wouldn't it ?

This is all very interesting, especially when you observe that secular countries (ie. Japan) have considerably less crime, higher highschool/college graduation rate, more prosperous economy, and less social conflicts than its religious counterparts.
What you are implying is that the only thing keeping you from reverting into a village pillaging, women raping savage is the irrational fear of an imminent punishment from a wrathful spirit. People like you are the source of everything that's wrong with todays world. For shame, sir, for shame. Your mindset is a relic of the past which can not coexist with todays evolving culture, I suggest you change your ways.

Religion got high-jacked by those that seek to further their own cause and purpose! The wolves in sheeps clothing are at the door! Find him who has pierced hands and feet, and a crown of thorns.....all the rest are just cheap imitations and there are no duplications! He is the resurrection and the life! None come to the father, but through him! He shall soon descend from the clouds in glory, and every knee and head will bow and every tongue will confess he is the king of kings and the lord of lords and of his kingdom there will be no end! Those who seek him, shall find him and when you drink from the water, you shall never thirst again! Jesus Christ!

We are all rebels against God, not just atheists. Rebellion, as the Bible says, is like the sin of witchcraft. As for intellectual revolt: When the Bible says, "The fool says in his heart there is no God", the word used for fool means insane. In other words, only an insane person would state that there is no God. That's because the evidence for God is everywhere and we are thus all without excuse.

Well I hate to inform you, but Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean that I am an immoral person. I do not hurt people intentionally, I do not kill, I do not steal. I live my life in a very moral manner.
I just don't believe that there is a God, and that I will go to heaven or hell when I die.
Nor do I believe he will save me... there is nothing to save. I am human, I am going to die. I will live my life in a manner that respects other human and the world around me!
Please stop crucifying people for not believing what you do. There is not right or wrong.
Just live your life according to your beliefs as i will do the same.

Was this really a question, or a space created for you to spout off your own rantings and hatred about people who are just trying to live their lives like you are, minus the religion part? How ironic that you thought to tack on a happy little sentiment at the end...
EDIT: I don't consider myself to be Atheist, just so you know. So don't think I'm only posting to defend myself. No, I'm just wondering why we feel the need to attack each other just because we think differently. Individuality is what makes us who we are.

By what authority have you been told this?
A relationship to God is a personal thing.
You pretend to have read all their minds, labeling them as an affront to God.
There are some Christians that are no better morally than any being on the planet.

wow, you sure make a bunch of moralizing judgments based on undisguised bigotry. you seem to be implying that you have the capacity to see into the generalized heart of every Atheist and what you see there is so totally immoral that every breath they take is sinful.
i wonder how you came by such powerful insight and if your god died and left you in charge passing judgment?
PS. i'm glad i'm not a Christian anymore. with so many Fundy Christian like you running around spewing hate and absurd notions i'd be in a constant state of embarrassment, having to continually qualify that i'm not a nasty Fundy Christian.

I think the whole thing is about the accountability.
If there is no god and we all came from apes, then I can do anything I want with no moral dilemma. What would be the importance of morals anyway, except to differentiate between your thoughts and mine. Who is right? Who then sets right from wrong except some arbitrary thoughts of man himself?
They don't want to admit a higher authority... as if that will make a bit of difference in the end anyway.
