The book of Genesis doesnt really get started until Abraham, Sarah and Issac, the story moves into Exodus and Moses. Which is a fantastic story/ history lesson. I believe the Adam and Eve and the creation story are stories to convey the message that God created everything...the question is how.
Judging by the user manual for my TV which is a centimetre thick. Then it would be unfair to expect a lot of detail of creation or Adam & Eve in a few pages. I dont know, but I think the Torah is the same as the first five books of the Christian bible.
I struggled with the very same question when I was younger, now I am quite content that the Christian God/ Allah are the same and God \ Allah was behind the creation. How God\ Allah did it I dont know.

We are descendants of the second Adam ..The first Adamic rule was for those of the old testament.... You can't always take the meaning of something so literal but there is a spiritual place for all lineage ...The second Adam being The Christ this is the new rule for the growth and understanding of who we are... The first rule ended when Emanuel was given to us as savior even though he existed before the foundation of the earth.. God's master plan always was and always will be... If you want to get real the first Adams seed would have run out a long time ago!
We must think with a spiritual mind and see with the eyes beyond our humanness ...

The answer is simple. Adam and Eve had daughters as well as sons. The fact that daughters are implied but not named, is not unusual when it comes to the genealogies given in the Bible. It was quite common to only name the adult males. And in some cases only some of the adult males. There are are instances where there are gaps in the genealogical record.
Also remember that after the worldwide flood that there were only eight people left alive. Noah, his wife, their 3 sons and their wives. All of humanity alive today are direct descendants of Noah and his wife, their sons and their wives.

Well, look at this way:
Adam and Eve were the perfect humans. No gene defect at all. Their kids ahd no defects, and they had a lot of kids. So, naturally, even though it was sister-on-brother, their kids had no gene defects.
Of ocurse, I personally believe that Adam and Eve weren't the ONLY humans created by God, and that somewhere he made more.
But who knows...adam and eve may have been a metaphorical story.

I do believe that that it is so. The same teaching in all three Heaven's Scripture. The Torah, The Bible, and the Holy Quran.
God Himself address us all quite a few times as "O Sons of Adam." When Allah said that, therefore there shouldn't be any doubt therein.

g'day, eh? (Canadian,)
came across an interesting article in national geographic (Canadian edition!!!) regarding the genetic history of man. Did you know that there is more genetic diversity in one group of chimps than there is in the entire human population on this planet at the moment? This points to a crisis in our history that is unrecorded. We nearly were EXTINCT about 60,000 years ago!!!!
I found this so interesting that I thought for sure it's got to be on the internet somewhere, and I found a link. You might like it. Merry Christmas.
edit: "Adam" is Hebrew for "man" ; )

Look, the answer is quite easy: it's not true. *It's a story*. It isn't real. It isn't history. It's something a group of bronze age nomads told each other in order to make some kind of sense of a mysterious world. There's no reason for scientifically literate people 4000 years later to take it seriously in any way other than as an interesting bit of cultural history.

The story of Adam and Eve is making the point (amongst others) that humanity has a common ancestry.
0ur interfertility makes that very plain. There is deep spiritual truth there.

I believe it. I'm interested in why you find it implausable. Yes their children would have had to marry their siblings, but the second law of thermodynamics, which says that chaos and disorder in the universe always increases, suggests that there would be few if any mutations so early on, so sibling marriage could be safe where it would now be dangerous.
