the Battle Cat retires in 2008, exact dates for change of command has not been established as of yet.

the ship to shore phones are for emergencies only, but there may be a type of payphone available that uses phone cards. you are limited only as to the satellite connections and how willing you are to stand in line. there may be time limits too.. no more than 15 minutes is the norm. I'd advise AGAINST calling 900 numbers though.

as long as you have leave on the books, you can request it. typically no more than 2 weeks at a time. whether or not you would be allowed to take it depends on many factors including OPTEMPO and how many other people in the workspace are on leave.

The Carriers are suppose to change commands sometime in 2008. Carriers have what they call AT&T Sailor phones, it cost a dollar a minute, and you can call any number anywhere as long as you have an AT&T calling card, or you can call using AT&T collect. The ship can secure the phones anytime they feel security is an issue. Like during certain operations. But the phones aren't worth the trouble, the ship may only have mabye ten phones for 5,000 people, plus the sattelite connection always drops. The delay in the phone always have you and the other person talkin over each other, so it is easier to use the e-mail. Leave days are automatic, every sailor gets 2.5 days a month or 30 a year.
