I recently bought a car. The problem is the owner didn't have the title. I have a bill of sale, but when it came to getting the pink slip, she hadn't gotten it from the dealership yet. Its been more than a couple months with no word. I tried her contact info and got nothing but dead ends. How do I go about taking ownership?

OUCH, First thing I would due would be contact the local authorities and make sure that you haven't purchased a stolen car. If you have not then many of the states will allow you to apply for a duplicate title or a lost title. This way you can transfer it inot your name.

If it seemed like it was a deal that was to good to be true it probally was. If it is a newer car then you may contact the dealer that sold the car. However if someone skipped out on the payments and sold you a car with a lein against it you may end up loosing the car. Have the vin number checked. that is your best bet then you can file proceedings from there.

Regards!!

If the previous owner has not done the proper title transfer from the loan company they will not transfer the title until that has been done. If the previous owner has not paid off the car then you will need to go to the police and file a fraud report. Best of luck

ITS BEST IF YOU CONTACT YOUR LOCAL (DMV) DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE GETTING THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.
