Recently, in a conversation, I was advised by a Christian that generally, the reason why non Christians reject Christianity is there is something about their lifestyles that Christianity deems a "sin." Since they don't want to lose that part of their lifestyle, they reject Christianity.
Personally, I find it rediculous. However, I am curious... how many of you are against Christianity because it is against something that you practice/stand for/live/etc? Like, homosexuals, or wiccans for instance, may just not like Christianity period, or may have otherwise been neutral or maybe even for it, if it weren't for Christianity's attack on their ways.
Just curious about your thoughts on the matter

Just as a note, since it seems to be in question... I am not Christian. I just converse with people of different faiths, and this comment made me curious

As a muslim I can say that, people reject Islam for the exact same reason.

Part of what I reject about is the self-righteous and often hypocritical attitude I receive from the christian masses. I have known too many people that lie about whats in their hearts and about their actions that prescribe to this faith.
Then there are those that keep repeating repulsive behaviors because if they ask forgiveness the slate is wiped clean.
As for the religion it's self, my only issue is the Bible is hard to follow and hard to believe. It seems to me like a very good story, however.
PS I'm not a deviant

I was raised Presbyterian. I "rejected" Christianity when my dad died when I was 9, and I was told by a Born Again Christian that he must have done something "bad" to be taken so young and he was "burning in Hell now."
That destroyed any illusion of a "loving, caring God" and also eliminated any desire to worship a God who would do something like that. The more I learned about the idea of "original sin" (the belief that we're all born stained and "bad" and it's only through the Grace of God that we poor undeserving wretches "earn" a place in Heaven) the more I disliked the idea of a Deity who would stack the deck against his creations and then torture them for eternity if they didn't live up to his (often contradictory) standards.
I eventually found my way to Paganism, have found peace with the God and Goddess, have a better understanding of the world and my place in it, and most of all, a respect for the balance of the Universe. All things have a place in the Dance, even death - it's not a "punishment".
A note to iamwardicus and ijacob - something doesn't have to be "a sin" to be "wrong".

Take careful note of how oldernwiser actually answered the question "yes" while vehemently denying that was she doing so. The same with a few others "no that ridiculous I just don't share their beliefs" - SAME THING....
My point was that it is the RULES that people don't like, and you can replace the word 'sin' with God's judgment and get the same effect.
Incidentally, to all, I have said harsh and rude things on this board before, so I am not claiming to be perfect, but calling me things like "imbecile" and stupid and idiotic and juvenile and whatnot is not really friendly behavior from ANY group, agreed?

well I used to be all for Christianity until I learned about it, actually studied it and listened to the sermons I was taking in all my life.
I left my church because it comdems homosexuality ( of which I have friends and am bi-curious) and because it looks down on women ( being that a female pastor was taken down and eventually left to preach at other churches who accepted her).
I was pentecostal and they look down on ppl, and believe anyone who doesn't uphold their standards was evil. There was no middle group. So I learned to accept the sins of god and took a blind eye to injustices going on.
I went to college and suffered a culture shock because I was so sheltered from life that everyone else was living. They were through and through fine, and even if they had some grim past, they didn't simply ignore reality and turn to religion.
I decided then and there that one had to go, a life amongst ppl who learned to live a balanced reality or Christianity, which taught me to ignore the world around me and judge the ppl in it.
long story short, I left because I'm part gay and a woman.

I live a completely standard life. No weird or deviant behaviors, I work, I give to the poor, I'm in a religiously-appropriate relationship, and yet I have no use whatsoever for christianity.
My dislike of this religion and its followers is that they push their religion on others. If you don't do like they say, you'll go to hell. Their way or the highway. They are anxious to change my government to reflect only their beliefs. Believe me, if I need someone to make my kids pray in their public school, tell me who to love, what to do in the privacy of my own home, or someone to tell my doctor what he can and cannot do for me, I'll find me a christian. Othewise, I hope they'll all just leave me alone and bang their silly bibles somewhere else.

I think that idea is, to be frank, stupid, idiotic and juvenile.
While there are things that Christianity considers sinful, that I do not, that is not the reason I reject Christianity. I reject it simply because it doesn't work. There is no evidence whatever that the Christian god is real. While the Bible contains some useful information and some accurate history, that does not prove it to be the word of God. The so-called prophecy is so vague as to be on par with Nostradamus or any other psychic who writes in vague terms and leaves thousands of years to find something that might match.
There is nothing in Christianity that provides me with any realistic incentive to buy into it.

Sin is a christian concept. Logically such a thing would not apply to someone who is a non believer.
IJacob - I'm not an idiot and do not want to start a flame war - I never mentioned concepts of right and wrong or any other type of moral standing. I only mentioned the concept of "Sin". Killing people is wrong, but in a non believers eyes it would never register as a sin because sin is a concept of religion. If you were on a desert island with someone trying to kill you to survive would you kill him first or just lie down and die because it is a "sin" to kill that person?

I was accused of that once, by a person who was semi literate so I thought since she was so stupid nobody else believed that. I guess I underestimated people's stupidity. That is ridiculous. I'm a high school atheist and I don't do anything I'm not supposed to. I just don't believe because it's silly!

Yes it is ridiculous, because...if that person was not a non Christian, then how can they actually know.
That's like asking people in one country why people do certain things in another and that person actually expecting that their own explanation is true and that people should believe it.
I'm not a Christian purely because I don't share their beliefs. Nothing to do with morals, and all do to with deities and all their stories that belong to them, not me.

Well personally it was the sins of Bigots, Zealots & Fundementalist (hate crimes commited in the name of christ) that cause me to reject it.
What enforced this was the others who'd prefer to denounce these as not being a "True Xian" rather than recognise the hurt & damage done by these Bigots.
