I'd sugest those who just goes through the motions of ritual practices rather than actually practice what they've been taught.

Yes, just look at all the churches who seek out members for no other purpose but to tell them their life is a wreck because they do not tithe properly. Most of the religious leaders take things out of context for their own gain, thus religion has always been (since Christ turn over the tables in the temple) a money making business.
Spirituality is the actual connect you or I or whoever has with God or the Supreme Being. What most people fail to see is that the can have that contact with their God without going thru a church, pastor, priest, etc... Thus creating the hold religion has upon people.
All beliefs are suppose to be a "way of life" not a "shackle and chain to a organization, religion, or church".

Religion is nothing more than MAN'S view of God. Therefore, if one is "spiritual", it's easy to be religious as long as one lives COMPLETELY within the confines of what they believe to be right. Problem is, our individuality is NOT part of the standards God laid out for use in interpreting Scripture! If religion were sufficient, then Jesus' life and death were an unnecessary waste for EVERYONE that lived at least PART of the Bible correctly would get into Heaven, thereby rendering Hell unnecessary and obsolete. To more succinctly answer your question, I would say it's VERY possible to have religion without spirituality since one can't be spiritual AND be religious! Personally, I want to be spiritual, for in such a manner, I find it to be a little easier to understand the Scripture when I study and easy to apply it to my life with conviction when I've sinned and with joy when I'm sad and with compassion when I've been wronged and etc.....

May be for a religion that does not believe in Gods spirit. But I will answer according to how I believe. I do believe that you can have spirituality with out religion, but you can't have a religion with out spirituality.

Yes. Spirituality is a sense of having contact with some other source that is usually without any physical proof. People who are spiritual have faith in the presence of a source of power or being outside of themselves, but their beliefs are idiosyncratic - in other words, they are not necessarily beliefs shared by anyone else. Religion is an attempt to formalize spiritual concepts and create formalized approaches or methods for achieving certain spiritual experiences. Often spiritual experiences are ineffable, difficult to relate to someone else because they are personal experiences, but religion provides a language for describing these experiences such that other people can understand them and are encouraged to pursue similar practices.

I think one could make a good argument that most religion precludes true spirituality. I've always thought that being spiritual requires one to be open to the possibility of various aspects of life that might exist beyond human perception and understanding. Most religions insist that they know all the answers, prohibitions, rules, and characteristics of those aspects. That's not "open". So I tend to see the two terms as mutually exclusive.

Of course, in fact most people end up just following or pretending to follow the rules of the religion and "going through the motions" rather than having any real spiritual experiences associated with them.

yes and no . you can be spiritual but you need religion because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God . Religion helps you to be spiritual . Yes you can go to church and get religion and not have the spirit . Only you can get spiritual with what you do with Jesus Christ . accept or reject its your choice .

I have been to plenty of churches that are about as spiritual as rocks. In reality that is the biggest problem with church and religion they serve a God of spirit but seek him in their flesh. They are afraid of spiritual manifestations so they play religion and church and have no relationship with God. A relationship with God which is a spiritual being must be developed in the spirit not the flesh, but like I said most Christians have the spirituality of a rock so go figure. Is it a no wonder that we barely see signs and wonders any more when our churches are filled with Christians afraid of the supernatural power of God.

Although people use the terms religion and spirituality interchangeably, they really are not the same. IMHO, spirituality is how a person relates to Deity and how they choose to express it. Religion is how a group chooses to express their relationship to Deity. So, IMHO, it is perfectly possible to be spiritual without being religious and religious without being spiritual.

Most definitely!
Religion is belief; Spirituality is Truth.
I think the more religious, the less Spiritual, and vice versa.
