I'm sorry i don't really have an example....
But what i mean is like a person is trying to kill someone so another person grabs them and jumps off a cliff with the killer to save another persons life.
Yeah i know it's not like the same type of suicide that we always hear about but technically it is still suicide.....but in a good way :)
i hope that helps a bit.
(BTW NO I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT KILLING MYSELF)

Here this guy "Siloam Tech" gave a great example of what i was talking about
"There have been soldiers who have thrown themselves on grenades in order to save fellow soldiers."

Suicide is NOT the unforgivable sin. God will judge the heart perfectly.

Well, I guess the first problem would be that the Christian shouldn't kill the person they are jumping off the cliff with, nor kill themselves.
Anyway, if the Christian does this sinful act (which God would not want), and they are truly saved. They would still go to heaven, because a person does not go to heaven by the merit (reward if good actions or punishment for bad) of what they haven done, but what Lord Jesus did on the cross.
I posted this in another answer:
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
That means everyone has sinned.
"The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23), by death it means both physical death and eternal death (hell).
So basically everyone deserves hell. Now the way to heaven is Jesus Christ ("Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6)
A person cannot earn heaven by themselves, they need the gift of God, by accepting Jesus as their saviour for their sins. ("For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8))
So a person cannot do enough good to earn their way to heaven or after accepting the gift cannot mess up or do enough bad to make God's perfect gift inadequate to go to heaven.
So if a person has truly accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, yes they can still sin afterwards and not have their salvation disqualified. (Whether it is suicide, or lying, or hating someone, or whatever the sin)

I doubt you'll go to hell for that. God is merciful and he takes into account different situation, otherwise he wouldn't be God.
It's like the Kamikaze pilots. They were taught that suicide is a good noble thing to do, so do you think God will condemn them for something they didn't know was wrong? I doubt it. And if you're doing it to save someone, I think he'll take that into account. But I'm not God, so I can't really judge this situation reliably.
P.S. Jesus could have saved himself from dying so technically it was suicide. (Of course that doesn't mean you should go kill yourself. He did it to save all of us. ) But doesn't that put an interesting perspective to it?
EDIT:
My answer only depends upon the definition of suicide.

Suicide is the taking of ones own life. It is a decision of that person only, it is a very selfish decision. It is not our life to take, It is Gods Life.
To jump in front of a bullet to save your child life is not considered Suicide. That is an act of Love, not Suicide.
Theres a big difference in the taking of ones own life, and the giving of ones life to save another.
One is a selfish act, and the other one isn't. So no, under these conditions you would not be committing Suicide, So no you would not go to Hell.

What comes to mind is 'greater love has no man than he who gives his life to save his friend' . This is the love shown by the solder who jumps on the grenade and it was the love Jesus showed when he died on the cross. - He could have got off at any time but allowed himself to be crucified -is this a type of suicide...

I'm not a Christian, but I liked your question-
I think that I have been told that suicide is a sin because it disrespects the life that we have been given.
From that point of view, choosing to save the life another person is very life-affirming. So I believe that it is very honorable to sacrifice oneself for another person.

I believe you are confused. Suicide is a reason for going to hell according to the bible. Sacrificing your life for another isn't. It's not the same thing. What were you thinking?

If you physically kill yourself??? I don't understand the situation. If you give your life for another- that's different. Isn't that what Jesus did for us?
The answer in that case is No. You would not go to hell.

There is no such thing as hell, therefore you need not worry But for someone to sarifice themselves to save another is an act of compassion and selflessless, all principles Jesus encouraged us all to have. God is not so cruel so as to punish you for that deed

I would only do it for a child. My life is just as valuable as another. I would try to save him or her if I could though without hurting myself. But I would put my life on the line for another. Or I would kill myself if I was going to save more then one. For 2 life's are better then one.
