Kids lie because they have seen or learned it somewhere, probably from the parents. As a kid, when I did something wrong and got caught, I owned up to it. As an adult I am the same way. If an overweight person asks me 'Am I overweight', I am not going to lie. There are polite ways of answering honestly. "Medically speaking, you are above your healthy weight range" or "Yes, you would be considered overweight, but so are most people nowadays". If you aren't going to like the answer, don't ask the question.

What exactly are you thinking you can't tell an overweight person? That they are overweight? In case thats what you were thinking, I think they already know that and probably don't really need your input on how you feel about it.
If lying bothers you this much (and thats good that it does), just be the one that doesn't lie. It doesn't mean that you need to go around telling everyone how ugly or fat they look. Those things are not necessary to comment on. It takes a person with good character to be truly honest always.

Children learn to lie at a young age, but do not think of it the same way as an adult would. Toddlers routinely lie to avoid trouble, so do adults plus we have social lies as well.

children dont lie because they dont realise that it can hurt someones feelings, but kids do lie if they think they are going to get into trouble if they tell the truth which is why adults lie too, its juts human nature and adults lie to be polite and to protect other people

Kids aren't necessarily honest either -- they usually are easily caught at it at an early age though, since they haven't yet learned to put themselves in your shoes, to understand what you'll see and think. Ask any 3-year-old with his face full of crumbs and the cookie jar on the floor, if he's gotten into the cookie jar, and I betcha his answer will be "Nooooo" (with innocent eyes).

Do you have children???? I am guessing you don't, or they have you snowed. Why do you feel obligated to tell the overweight person they are overweight? Do you think they don't know???
Kids learn to lie right after they learn to speak. Some are good at it, others are painfully horrible at it. My 9yo son can't lie to save his life. My 4 yo daughter lies so well, she fakes me out. My 20yo used to snow my hubby every time, he is wise to her now. Even the littlest who just turned 3 lies.
