I,m sure that there are rescues for theses guys also...You can get a young dog at a quarter of the price from a rescue...They are usually some what trained and come with a clean bill of health...You,ll be saving a life!!!!!!

The dog pound/animal control might be a good bet. Usually dogs from here are older (puppies are TERRORS unless you've worked with them before) since many times people got a puppy and now can't deal with them at 1 year or so, so they are still young. If you don't see any rotties, try going back in a week, by then usually most of the animals have been adopted or euthanized. It's sad, but true.

Also, make sure your community ALLOWS rottweilers. Some cities may have banned breeds, and sometimes it's just a region of a city that does. You don't want to have this wonderful dog and then find out that by law you either have to put, or put him/her down when they're still of a good age and healthy!

Visit the website for the American Rottweiler Club for breeder referrals:

Beware of newspaper ads and pet stores...they are a bad source for any dog. If you're going to buy from a breeder, make sure he/she is responsible. The American Rottweiler Club has a Code of Ethics that govern the breeding practices of member breeders. You are highly likely to find a GOOD rottweiler breeder by going through the Club.

You may also want to get in touch with the Southwestern Rottweiler Club of San Diego. I don't see breeder referrals on their site, but you can find local people who will help you in your search:

A good breeder won't just hand off a precious pup to anyone.
Make sure you know everything there is to know about the breed before you see a breeder.

Have you checked your newspaper? Area shelters, rescues, SPCA? Craigslist? Vet's office bulletin boards? Petfinder.com? You're bound to find one at any of these places.
