The final punishment (second death) consists of death by fire, or burning. "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15.
". . . and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." Revelation 20:9.

"The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved." Psalm 75:3.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works therin shall be burned up. Seeing that all these things shall be dissolved . . . Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." 2 Peter 3:10,11,13

"The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath; and fire will consume them." Psalm 21:9.

2. The end result of this punishment will be "death", i.e. nonexistence.

"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:4.
"For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23.

"They shall be as though they had not been." Obadiah 16.

3. The permanent effect of this punishment will be eternal nonexistence.

"they shall be destroyed forever." Psalm 92:7.
"When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established for ever." Proverbs 10:25

The Bible gives its own explanation and definition of the symbol by stating: “This means the second death, the lake of fire.”—Re 20:14; 21:8.
The symbolic quality of the lake of fire is further evident from the context of references to it in the book of Revelation. Death is said to be hurled into this lake of fire. (Re 20:14, 20) Death obviously cannot be literally burned. Moreover, the Devil, an invisible spirit creature, is thrown into the lake. Being spirit, he cannot be hurt by literal fire.—Re 20:10.
Since the lake of fire represents “the second death” and since Revelation 20:14 says that both “death and Hades” are to be cast into it, it is evident that the lake cannot represent the death man has inherited from Adam (Ro 5:12), nor does it refer to Hades (Sheol). It must, therefore, be symbolic of another kind of death, one that is without reversal, for the record nowhere speaks of the “lake” as giving up those in it, as do Adamic death and Hades (Sheol). (Re 20:13) Thus, those not found written in “the book of life,” unrepentant opposers of God’s sovereignty, are hurled into the lake of fire, meaning eternal destruction, or the second death.—Re 20:15.

The second death is actually for the lost souls... demons if you will. Those who lost contact or who have been within some sort of "spiritual" realm that have been cast or accused wrongly. Witches, magic and all the other sort of things that have bonded spiritual beings into a state of "pergatory" is the second death.

This happens after when souls have been redeemed from the spiritual bondage. When Christ comes to save the ones who are lost. But only through Christ can these things be saved. This is what is meant when Jesus overcame the world and defeated demons by using Belzebub to overthrow demons.

There are the ones who are judged by God, the first death, then through Christ is the second death.. this is God's grace to those who are spiritual bonded through false practices.

Those are two separate things. The second death is the final death. Adamic death is the first. You can read more in Revelation.

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

The human soul is a body and a spirit

There are two potential deaths - physical and spiritual

Physical death occurs when the spirit separtaes from the body while spiritual death occurs when the spirit is separated from God forever.

The second death being referred to is sometimes called "spiritual death", meaning separation from God (as an active part of one's life.) As all good comes from God, the absence of God allows [an important point here, many think] only the bad - including the lack of life with God (spiritual life.)

it is when the soul is judged and forever cast into the lake of fire for eternal punishment.

Rev 20;10
"10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
