In most cases it definitely is JEALOUSY. It is most apparent when people talk negatively about people they don't even know except in the magazines or some other media type.
Friends sometimes have a love hate relationship going on too. They compete without the spoken words and this is never a good thing because we should never compare ourselves by someone else's talents, gifts, etc. We are all unique and special in our own way. Love yourself and strengthen your strong points don't focus on the weaknesses.

It depends upon the situation. Maybe it is a form of jealousy or it depends upon the person being criticize. If he feels that it is a constructive criticism and can improve him/her in some other ways it is not jealousy but if some instances just like h/she is a fault finding one maybe he/she is just jealous. Also it depends on how you analyze the criticism being used, whether it is constructive or destructive.

Criticism can be a front for jealousy, etc. However sometimes criticism can be just, fair and constructive. I know I've been criticized in the past and then thought about what that person has said about and realised it was right. If you don't accept constructive criticism in your life sometimes, you won't change bad or inappropriate behavior.

Criticism is definitely a front. But it can be for many things. Jealousy, envy, disatisfaction, inadequacies... Only when a critique was requested is it not rooted in negativity.

I completely disagree.
People criticize "losers" and also praise "successful people". I don't think that it has anything to do with jealousy. It has to do with disappointment and dissatisfaction.

Yes, it definitely can be.
People who don't have what you do, but wish they did, figure that they know a better way things could have been done. Or how you could be doing it better.
Easy to talk when you don't live it, lol.

Sometimes it is jealousy, other times it could be trying to defend someone that you feel that person is demeaning, or making them feel less than what they are just so they feel better about themselves.

I think you're absolutely right.People always want what other people have but then feel sorry for others who don't have as much as they do.

I have always thought that it is more of a front for self-righteousness in general.
