Progressive scan is a type of HDTV. HDTV can be either progressive scan (ex. 1080p) or interlaced scan (1080i). If the numbers are the same than the progressive scan is a better tv (however comparing 1080i to 720p often yield different opinions).

yeah your question contradicts itself..progressive scan is a type of HDTV. Progressive just says the type of resolution..from best to worst..
1080p (progressive) 1080 lines every time is scans
1080i (interlaced) 1080 line but every other line it scans
720p (progressive) 720 lines every time it scans

I think what you mean to ask is progressive scan or resolution. For my money, resolution is more important if your TV can handle it in it's native resolution.

I noticed my local PBS station broadcasts in 1080 Interlaced, and many other stations broadcast in 720 Progressive. The PBS station pictures are much nicer.
