When it comes to sacrifice, the Johnston family has given far more than most. Mr. Johnston's brother was killed in Vietnam in 1970. His son Gary, named for the uncle he never met, was killed in Iraq earlier this year.
"Before my son left for Iraq," says Mr. Johnston, "we sat down in the living room, and he planned his funeral. He had few requests. He did ask to be buried next to his uncle, in Archer City." I told him Vietnam was a worthless war and the Iraq war was and is based on lies but my son still enlisted and went to war and died." Why didn't the USA learn from Vietnam?" Mr Johnson said. Why?

Tell all here "How is fighting in Iraq helping to protect the USA"? Iraq did not do 9-11.

While it is sad and tragic that lives must be lost to protect the freedom of America and its people, it is still a necessary evil. I applaud and appreciate every person who has gone to war to protect our way of life. They understand the sacrifice and realize that their service is for the greater good. Unfortunately that is the price we all pay to live in America.
Just remember that "It can't always be someone else's son." We all have to do our part to preserve this nation.
God bless our Troops...pray for them and do all you can to support them. Their choice is a difficult one to say the least so make sure you appreciate them and let them know you are proud of them every chance you get. My only regret is that I am unable to go and fight by their side.

If we dont fight the war and have brave men and woman to grant us freedom..then where would this country be?
Families make great sacrifice and the men or woman from those families are the ones who fight for us to have freedom. My husband is in Iraq and we have been married for a little over a year. We have a 6 month old son. Although i wish my husband was here...he makes me SO proud to know that he is laying down the ground work of a new era for Iraq. I wish the media would stop showing all of the bad things and show some of the good things happening there. Like building schools and hospitals and other things like that. Its not all bad things that happen.
Why cant the media show you the families who are supporting their family and believe that they will come home. Which a lot of soldiers do. Maybe thats why so many have PTSD..because they dont get the recognition they deserve. My brother has been to Iraq twice...and he has never so much as had a scratch on him and hes a Medic! So not everyone dies. Dont be misled..

uhm first off im going to say i am yes 16 but i know a lot of people in the army and that's most likely my career choice so I've done a lot of research through way to many books and websites and recruiting centers. So the military is a good career because you do get discipline and learn good life skills for example leadership and being part of a team. (but everyone knows that from the commercials). but a few nice things about the military is that if you do it short term you don't have to worry to much about if you can make your money stretch the month because most housing and food is paid for through an allowance. plus you get your monthly salary. down side is you are signed to a contract that if you don't complete one way or another your kind of frowned upon. but if you choose to do this for i believe it's 20 years or more you get a pension and i believe you can still collect social security. (not a 100% but pretty sure) so after you retire you could be a little better set off than the average guy out of high school working in a factory their whole life. i am also going to say that its best to go into a tech job in the military if your an aggressive thought person because on the Field aggression could cause misjudgment and put you and or your squad in danger. basically do some research and make sure this is exactly what you want be for you enlist because if you go in and you hate it you got to finish your contract.

You just don't get it do you? Any solid answer will simply be ignored. You have your anti American agenda. You seem to enjoy trying to undermine the American fighting spirit. It isn't working.
Americans enlist to defend our homeland. In case you don't realize, the Muslim/Islam world has no respect for anybody that is not of that world. They slap "Jihad" on an issue and feel justified in killing you and your whole family.
They strap bombs on their bodies, walk into crowded shopping centers, and kill innocent people.
It is far better to engage an enemy in their home; destroy their home, not ours.
You really should enlist. Become a proud member of a fighting force dedicated to the survival of America. Not just exist as a self serving parasite.

Certainly your son has a good reason for joining the military as we all do has our own reason too. It just a complicated feeling. Difficult to explain and hard to understand. Not everyone has the heart to be a soldier. I'm sure your son is very brave to be like one. But thats not the end of everything. It just a beginning of a journey. The Army is the path. At the end of his journey he will find that new path and new life. Just bless him and bless us all.

Because its not about politics. Its not about agendas. Some people hear the bugle calling, and their hearts swell with pride and joy...and they go to serve. It is not for any of us to judge these patriots. This man died doing what he loved, what his heart cried out to fulfill. While we see it as a waste, he would see it a waste to do a 9-5 job.
When inquiring about people of this caliber, would be respectful not to mix their passions and patriotisms with the vileness of the Politics surrounding the war.
It dirties those who served and died.
And it inadvertantly glorifies those who started this mess.

We join the military for many reasons, we stay for one. To protect the weak and oppressed from the strong and the violent. It's an act of selfless service. It's called Honor, it's called Courage, and it all takes Commitment.

Anti War Troll Poster called Erudite, aka his clone Erudite 2,
Please post a link to verify the part of your rant that says
"I told him Vietnam was a worthless war and the Iraq war was and is based on lies but my son still enlisted and went to war and died." Why didn't the USA learn from Vietnam?"
as is sound suspiciously as the anti-war crap you continually post.

Its called tradition, and patriotic duty, many men killed in WW2 had relatives killed in WW1.
Many family's in previous wars lost more family members than one per generation.
So again your attempted anti-war rant falls flat!!

All I can really tell you about this is......more troops die each year from motorcycle accidents than war casualty's (six times as many) . As a matter of fact, the mere fact that we have so many troops in Iraq, and that they cant ride motorcycles there..........mathematically has saved lives for the US military.
