My little one has loose bowels. I am pretty sure this is from teething and too much juice. I have started pedialyte and a diet high in bananas and cheese. This seems to be taking care of the stools.

But, she has diaper rash. She has never had this and it seems so awful. It is red and she cries when I change her. I am putting diaper rash ointment on and changing her very very frequently.

My question is- she has gone to sleep (she keeps a strict sleep schedule and is doing wonderful on it). Do I wake her to check her diaper and change her, or do I let her sleep? I have put ointment on and am debating which to do. Poor thing, after all this, I don't want to interrupt her sleep.

PS- she has had poo in the morning when she wakes (which she has never done). I don't know if she is going at night or right when she wakes.

My question is not the diahrea- SHOULD I WAKE HER TO CHANGE HER?

sounds like you are doing everything right-the rash will go away-try keeping her diaper off for short periods of time (like if it is just after a bath or something) i would never wake a sleeping baby! :) she is most likely pooping right when she gets up-my daughter does this too-something about moving around does it!

Wake her.

She will go back to bed fine.

The sooner you can can the diaper rash, the better.

(p.s. We've been told to never replace a diaper on a wet bum. Our baby book says to keep a hair dryer at the changing station. I have been air-drying our baby's bum and there's been no diaper rash in about a year. Also, the Aquafor is the best, after the bum is dry. It keeps all of the stuff off of the skin so that it can heal quicker)

Since she has a bad rash I would try to check her diaper without waking her if possible. My son has extremely sensitive skin and desitine is too strong for him. His doctor recommended 1/2% ccortisone cream. What also works good for him is plain Aloe gel, like for sunburns. He has a rash right now because he had the flu and diarrhea and he is doing great with the aloe.

My son has been going through the same thing. I try to get up a couple of times at night to do a "sniff test" . I know it sounds weird, but it is better than waking the poor thing up. Just walk in to her room and lean over the crib and try to see if you smell any poop. If not don't wake her. If you do then you can change her. Good luck!

My son just got out of his first diarrhea stage. He had the same issue, and it lasted about 4 days(i felt so bad!).
But I would do the sniff test. Randomly go and sniff him to find out if I should wake him up or not. He would always go right back to sleep, or barely be awake while I change him.

Boil rice, drain the water, cool it off in the fridge- then give it to her in a bottle. Rice water stops diareah!
Good luck.
