I know you guys don't believe in Jesus. But has the thought ever crossed your mind that if you are wrong and He exists. That one day you will stand before Him and be judged on what you have said and done? That what you say about Him will be held against you? Does that thought ever cross your minds at all?

This has nothing to do with Pascal's wager. At least not to my mind. This is not a you should serve Him just in case. But more of a why insult Him? He never did anything to them.

Once again I don't see this as Pascal's wager. As has been noted I have been here long enough to know not to ask it. I am not saying to serve Him just in case. I am just wondering if the thought has ever crossed your mind when you post a particularly insulting question or answer that I may answer for this one day.

We need to pray the prayer of Jesus because He was the perfect example " Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing "

Pascal's wagers questions will not be received well here, just a suggestion from one Christian to another.

Mental - It's an old drinking game actually. You drink every time someone mentions Pascal's Wager, Why are Atheists in this section anyway, Jesus Tomb, If man came from monkeys why are there still monkeys, and the Council of Nicea. There are more but I can't remember them all.

To the questioner- Any question with the words "what if you're wrong" and/or "what have you got to lose" are regarded as Pascal's Wager questions. Just trying to help you.

That's known as Pascal's Wager and it is logically flawed. The same basic claim could be make of any religion and it's impossible to believe in them all.

It's also false because it assumes that a person can will themselves to believe in imaginary beings without any evidence.

And finally, an equal possibility exists that some advanced entity may actually reward those with sufficient critical thinking to realize Christianity is false.

I probably do believe that the man existed but I doubt he rose from the grave or ever will.

That said, if this wonderful Jesus guy will forgive child murderers and evil politicians then why wouldn't he forgive some simple insults?
Are we to be judged on our words or on our actions?
Isn't it more important to talk well about the good people that are living?

No, If God/Jesus exist and are logical and omnibenevolent constructs, they will not judge me harshly for using the faculties they bestowed upon me to come to the conclusions i did. If God exists then he knows and means for all that happens to us to actually happen, he makes homosexuals, he makes open-minded, questioning beings who have the exact faculties and disposition necessary for atheism to exist, and indeed, he always has, from certain Ancient Greek thinkers right through to the present.

I figure that provided i am an empathetic, compassionate, respectful and generous human being. I'm probably not going to cop too much wrath no matter what the afterlife situation, and whether or not there is one, this is the kind of human being i want to be anyway.

I'm not a Christian but I believe in Jesus. I believe that he existed and that he preached to the people about Christianity. But I don't believe all the "miracles" that he performed. He was just your average preaching dude - I'm sure that there were plenty about in the year 0 or 20 AD or whenever he was preaching. In fact, there were probably a few thousand people called Jesus, all of whom I believe existed.
And you've got to admit, some of those Jesus jokes are funny. If it turns out that I'm wrong then up in heaven (or I can phone from hell) I can tell him some and we'll have a good laugh about it.

I believe Jesus was a man who walked the earth just like the rest of us. He may have had a greater belief in GOD then the rest of the people at his time but he was a regular human being I believe. So I don't answer to Jesus I am held accountable by my own actions in this world by a Loving GOD of my own understanding.

No. But I do believe there was a guy living in what is now Israel that was the Jesus talked about in the bible. There is truth in many folk tales and this guy was probably one of them. He was nothing other than a regular guy with new and influential ideas probably brough back from the far east. He was probably somewhat like Gandhi was in his time. If you put Gandhi back two thousand years and add a few hundred years of religious fog you'd probably end up worshipping him too as a religious celebrity ljust ike your Jesus.
Do I ever think he will be judging me one day? No, he's dead.

Edge, you've been here long enough to know that Pascal's Wager is a drinking game question (infact, it's the *original* drinking question). For one, any omniscient deity would see through "feigning" belief -- and such a blatant deception may itself be a sin.

But more importantly, why would I choose one God out of the tens of thousands that *could* exist? Why not Hinduism -- the more Gods I worship, the better my odds, right?

It takes a certain amount of maturity and wisdom for someone to truly be religious. Something atheists do not have; they see only the small picture and never venture outside the box. They are denying themselves of any pleasure once dead. If you were a perfectly happy atheist here on earth, and you found out after you died that you did not believe His word, and you did not live up to His expectations, and therefore you would not be granted passage into His kingdom. You would be really angry with yourself. Full of regret. How ignorant (atheists) does one have to be to risk burning for all eternity, just so they can have an easier life here on earth? The truth is, all religion is faith. The Bible could not have been written by just anybody because the ones that followed Jesus would not have allowed it to continue to be spread as the word of God. There would have been war in which the Bible would either be revised to tell the followers interpretation of Jesus's word, or it would be destroyed completely along with the sworn deffenders of it. God has put on this planet all the evidence neede to explain his doing, that much is so. Evolution (the way we got here) has a reasonable scientific explanation along with how the earth formed, and the solar system, how the earth will end. I personally don't believe that very specific amino acids just combined for no reason and has led to the creation of everything here on earth. Led to the creation of exactly ONE species that can have in depth emotional feelings on a very wide scale, learn to create tools which can also create life, clone living things...etc....We are the only ones that can do that and no other species comes remotely close. In the Biblical days, when the Bible was being *written* (the Bible is composed of srolls from the accounts of people that were there during events, and ideas that were taught by Jesus and his followers) it was thought that Hell was DOWN, while Heaven was UP. It was also thought that Hell was chaotic and insanely hot, while Heaven was very peaceful. Now how in the world would the people back in those days have any idea whatsoever that below the earth's crust and mantle (where Hell was said to be) it IS insanely hot? They had no technology whatsoever to support that. And look at space. Does it not look peaceful? It is. It's quiet in space. How were these people getting their ideas? God has given us the ability to find reasonable explanations for his works (free will) and choose our own path. He wont force us to obey him and to believe in him hence the free will. The evidence and the different paths we can take are put here to filter out the blind from the seeing. Besides, even if you don't believe in any higher power would it not be worth it to convert yourself to so that you can live a peaceful life with understanding? How bad would it be to go through life having an excellent time here on earth to find out after you died that you did not believe in His word, or live up to His expectations and thus will not be allowed into His Kingdom, but instead be cast into Hell awaiting eternal damnation. Why in the world would somebody even consider risking that? This life is nothing but a test of faith. Like I said, filtering the blind from the seeing. I hope you can find God in your life. It took me long enough, I only pray they don't have (or have had to) to go through the challenges I have to finally see.

Ever crossed your mind that you are wrong?

Or do you do the thing most others do, and just can't think outside that box at all, making comments entirely based on *your* belief alone.

Seriously, the box must be pretty crowded and stuffy in there. Believe what you want, but come out for some air sometime, huh?
