It depends on how close your friendship is with them.
If it's not that close then keeping your distance is cool.
If you are closer then maybe you can learn to enjoy it
a little. Hugs are nice except from strangers then it's a little awkward.

I am in the same exact boat as you are. Just about all of my friends LOVE to hug and I am just not comfortable with it. I made it clear to them my feelings on the subject but if anything they got more aggressive. I have given into giving them half hugs and they have now backed off considerably. In your instance though (since you believe that some of your friends have a crush on you) that you should be more assertive then I was in telling them that you are not comfortable with the hugging situation. Perhaps you'll have more luck then me.

When the next one comes at you, take a step back and don't respond, unless its a casual shake of hands. You need to be a bit more assertive here and less a target for hugging. -Or put a hand up and simply grin and say, "hey, a shake of the hand will do!" -That should let them know you're off limits to hugging - but you're gonna have to do the work here dear if you want these "interested" lovelies to bug off.

Yeah, it is a good idea to tell them your not a "hug person." Thats a smart thing to do and they wont feel offended at all. But, I'm just warning you, these kind of people are going to try to hug you no matter what. If they do end up hugging you, just don't push them away, Trust me I learned the hard way. Just explain to them your not a "hug person."

I'd just let them all know the next time you are hanging with that group of friends. Let them know that you aren't being a jerk, but hugs in your eyes are for extremely close people only. They won't be mad if they are your true friends.

when they go in for the hug, smile, nod, and jump for your cell phone like it just vibrated. pretend to talk to someone for a few minutes, sit down, get adjusted. they'll sit down too. eventually, if you keep pulling stuff like that, they'll get the point without you having to actually tell them and hurting their feelings.
once you do the cell phone thing a few times, try just like, waving as they come at you and then turning around and talking to someone else or whatever. just kind of brush off the greeting. haha

Well, next time you see them just eat a lot of garlic bread. Guarantee they'll stay away from you. And bring some altoids and tag body spray for when you go visit the girlfriend so you don't offend her.

If it really offends you when they hug you, then you should say something to them. But otherwise, a hug never hurt anyone!

Perfectly fine. Everyone's entitled to their own physical contact rules, and if they try break those rules, it's up to you to enforce them.

If you don't care about being a jerk hold out your hand when they go to hug you. They'll get the message...
